Keyes looks to rescue GOP, announces run for president

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After two previous runs for U.S. president, former Reagan diplomat Alan Keyes has announced he's again seeking the White House in the 2008 election, and he'll take part in Monday night's Republican presidential debate here.

Keyes told syndicated radio host Janet Parshall he's "unmoved" by the lack of moral courage shown by the other candidates, among whom he sees no standout who articulates the "key kernel of truth that must, with courage, be presented to our people."

He added, "The one thing I've always been called to do is to raise the standard ... of our allegiance to God and His authority that has been the foundation stone of our nation's life" – and he decried the lack of "forthright, clear, and clarion declaration" from the current crop of presidential contenders.

As a result, Keyes said, "We're putting together an effort that's not going to be like anything before, because it's going to be entirely based on citizen action. We're going to be challenging people to take a pledge for America's revival," and elevate them from spectators in the political arena to participants.

Well I suppose that makes sense. Let’s back a candidate with no track record of ever winning an elected office. After all, if we’re going to waste our vote, let’s waste it on the person with absolutely zero chance of even making an impact on the election.

It is good to hear Mr. Keyes is in the race. Keep the Faith EternalVigilance. Look how many times it took Abraham Lincoln to get elected so Alan can over come also. Hang in there.

Putting pressure on one’s kids doesn’t mean throwing them out of their house because they’re gay.

I only and specifically expressed doubt about Thompson's commitment to Conservatives after hiring someone from Socialist Guiliani's staff.

Your absurd comment reflects illogical liberal thought.

You completely overlook the staffer who found Thompson's campaign more in line with his goals. You ignore the fact that Wood worked for Pat Buchanan and Steve Forbes in previous elections.

In light of your persistent and daffy assertions, I smell a liberal agenda, Man50D. Meow.

I haven't chosen a candidate and probably won't for several more months but regardless of that fact the flip side of your argument is to support a candidate with whom you agree on his or her positions on a minority of issues if any for the sole purpose of winning. In the end all you've accomplished is to sacrifice your core principles. Many GOP leaders have done just that in attempt to appease the Socialist Democrats. The only result has been incremental Socialism in the GOP to the point where core Conservative principles have been abandoned.

Another vague insult void of any details to backup such a statement not to mention illogical for the simple fact no liberal(socialist) lasts long on FR.

You completely overlook the staffer who found Thompson's campaign more in line with his goals.

You completely ignore this also means Wood lacks any conviction either because he was campaigning for Guiliani while he truly supported Thompson or Wood's sudden change indicates he is willing to sacrifice his principles for some perceived personal benefit.

In light of your persistent and daffy assertions, I smell a liberal agenda, Man50D. Meow.

You really should find a better tactic than attempting to turn the tables by diverting discussion from the subject at hand and instead slinging innuendos and insults at the messenger. That is the very strategy used by Socialists.

Don't let facts get in the way of your loopy allegations. Per the story yesterday, (where you were corrected time and again by others who noted your goofy logic) Wood quit the Giuliani campaign in July. Thompson did not announce his candidacy until last week.

Another vague insult void of any details to backup such a statement

No details? You quoted my details in the next line. Just because you have a keyboard doesn't mean your posts make sense.

Curious....without playing the “electability” card, why would you choose Keyes over Duncan Hunter?

Curious...Why do you assume I endorse any candidate even though I have not stated my support for anyone and specifically stated in post #225 " haven't chosen a candidate and probably won't for several more months"?

Once again your illogic can't see the forest for the trees. Wood's supports a Socialist like Guiliani and suddenly jumps ship to support someone who supposedly is much more Conservative? Either Wood's doesn't care the about the ideology of the candidate he works for or the two candidates are not as dissimilar as people are led to believe.

That may be true, but what makes it hurt so badly is that osama won a previously held Republican seat... so some Republican did win it one election before.

Alan Keyes has been given the same kind of treatment that George Allen or Dan Quayle received. This apparently is some kind of reflection on his qualifications to serve, but in reality is is mostly just a discrediting and pre-emptive move to choke off any real debate on the future of this country, by invoking totally irrelevant “shortcomings”, which are only means to mock and obfuscate the positions of the candidate.

So George Allen pinpointed one of the “opposition research” specialists that was dogging his campaign, Dan Quayle was excoriated for a spelling error, and Alan Keyes was slammed for pulling exactly the same tactic that Herself, the Cold and Joyless, has applied in New York (apparently, this is OK in New York, as Bobby Kennedy had done something similar back in the 1960’s).

If you speak on behalf of the Lord Almighty, and all the American people, fine.

Otherwise, I’ll soldier on for a true statesman, Dr. Alan Keyes.

Yep, you’re right. We should at least give Mr. Keyes the respect of listening to what he has to say. I for one, am going to be watching the Values Voters debate on Monday. I want to say what he has to say and what the other candidates are saying as well. All this rediculous character assassination is really sad.

I voted for Alan Keyes in several elections, but he is beginning to look like Harold Stassen.

“You and your beloved family remain in my family’s prayers every day, sir. May God bless you beyond measure in this critical fight to save this free republic.”

Even his daughter?

Alan rejected her, totally, for being a lesbian.

He’s nothing but a professional candidate who lives the high life off the donations of suckers.
