The man suspected of killing one Miami-Dade cop and wounding three others Thursday morning in a shootout in south Miami-Dade was cornered and shot dead in a Pembroke Pines apartment complex sometime before midnight, a law enforcement source told The Miami Herald. Miami-Dade police would not confirm the information about suspect Shawn Sherwin LaBeet, but scheduled a news conference for 12:30 a.m. at its headquarters in Doral. After receiving a tip Thursday evening that LaBeet was hiding in an apartment complex in Pembroke Pines, Miami-Dade sent its SWAT team, the source told The Herald.
Good news. He will not have the ability to kill again.
Yup. I used to live in Pembroke Pines.
and that is that.
Excellent news!
But I'll still weep for his mother.
Probably not. We'll have a week of hand wringing about why he did it and did the officers really have to shoot him.

Too bad they didn’t just wound him. He has possible ties to Muslim extremists. His half-brother killed a bunch of white people in the Virgin Islands and hijacked an airliner to Cuba. That man is now an Islamist radical.
So currently, is the area a good one or a rat infested sewer?

(CBS4) PEMBROKE PINES In an apartment building in Pembroke Pines, the chase for accused cop killer Sean LaBeet ended late Thursday in a second confrontation with Miami-Dade police officers. The first confrontation ended in the death of a police officer. The second ended in his death, after police say he opened fire when they tried to arrest him. CBS4 sources say the end came at an apartment complex at 305 SW 83rd Avenue Pembroke Pines, following a search for LaBeet that started early Thursday afternoon.
"We Got Him", one police source told CBS4 News. Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez, who once headed the Miami-Dade police Department, detailed how LaBeet was captured. "The confronted him. There was an exchange of gunfire. The subject was shot and killed," Alvarez said. Miami-Dade's SWAT team attempted to make the arrest, assisted by the Pembroke Pines police department. Alvarez said LaBeet was armed and had an extra clip when he confronted police.
At first, investigators incorrectly identified the suspected shooter as 30-year-old Kevin Wehner. But Miami-Dade Commander Linda OBrien said Wehner is actually hundreds of miles away in the Jacksonville area and is not involved in the shootings in Cutler Bay. ''It appears we have been misled about (the suspect's) initial identity,'' Miami-Dade's O'Brien said. She said she was glad Wehner stepped forward quickly. It appears LaBeet had obtained his ID.'' Immediately after the shooting, police say LaBeet got back in his car and sped off heading down the Turnpike. What is believed to be LaBeet's vehicle, a white Honda Accord with a black hood, was located in the area of SW 203rd Street and 129th Avenue on a small road lining the bank of Black Creek Canal, however, it was empty. The front windshield of the vehicle was smashed.
By mid-afternoon, Miami-Dade police Commander Linda O'Brien said Shawn LaBeet was believed to be driving a Black 2007 Pontiac Vibe with the Florida tag W59EPT. That car was found in a parking lot at a Target store in Oakland Park, at Oakland Park Boulevard and Federal Highway, shortly before 4:30 pm Thursday. When the car was found, it was discovered the Pontiac was rented out to LaBeet's brother, Shane LaBeet. The women and children who were found at the car are Shane's girlfriend and children. Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez told reporters Thursday night that police had been deceived by LaBeet's girlfriend, who intentionally misled them about his identity. She was being questioned by police Thursday night, before police located LaBeet in Broward County and attempted to arrest him
i want the girlfriend tried, at a minimum, as an accessory after the fact.
What you said.
And how he bought assault weapons.
For sure, she better be.
Hmmmm. The title here suggests (without reading on) that they first captured the guy, and then shot him dead. Interesting.
justice is sweet
Saved the state money.
