Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) said Thursday that he is asking The New York Times for the same heavily discounted rate they gave MoveOn.org for his campaign to run an ad in Fridays paper. Giuliani, calling MoveOn.orgs controversial General Betray Us ad abominable, said his campaign is asking the paper for a comparable rate for an ad to run following President Bushs speech on Iraq.
The former mayor said his ad will obviously take the opposite view from MoveOn.org, which argued in its ad that Gen. David Petraeus is cooking the books on Iraq and cherry-picking facts that support his recommendation to keep a large number of troops in Iraq for some time.
Giuliani continued to include Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) in his criticisms for her comments that it would take a willing suspension of disbelief to accept at face value Petraeuss report on the situation in Iraq. Giuliani interpreted Clintons remarks at a hearing earlier this week as questioning the generals integrity.
We think that her attack on Gen. Petraeus was a follow-up to the MoveOn.org/Times attack, Giuliani told reporters in Atlanta.
I don't like that.
Sorry. I don't believe you're dumb enough to believe the influence of the New York Times and the Saturday Evening Post are even close to comparable.
Well, the first one that comes to mind is: "PWNED"
I’ll give Rudy credit for sharing the viewpoint that the New York Slimes needs to be put in their place.
Gotta give credit when credit is due.
Better yet, these "campaign donations" in the form of discount rates to the Democrat party members should be counted as such and the traitorous "news" paper and democrat party charged with illegal campaign contributions laundering.
Don't you agree Hillary Clinton? Will you be giving back the equivalent amount from the Hillary "war chest" that the NYT has given you in add discounts to show how honest you are? You wouldn't want yet ANOTHER charge of receiving questionable campain funds against you, would you?
I would expect that Macy’s and all of the other major advertisers in the NY Times will be asking for the MoveOn rate in the future.
....and curmudgeon(s) agree. :)
Remember when he was a razorbacks fan?
Discounts for everyone!
No discrimination.
well the times was all in favor of reinstating the fairness doctrine so i can’t see why they wouldn’t give rudy the same rate
lol
So as one curmudgeon to another... what do you think Fred Thompson wants to do about entitlements like Social Security and Medicare? I thought that was one of his issues a few weeks ago. I’m interested.
If the campaign contribution was recorded as going to the DNC as an organization, I believe it would be considered "soft money" and would not be limited in amount. However, the DNC (or whatever the receiving organization was) would have to report it to the FEC.
So the contribution itself would not be illegal.
Now that I've stated that, I welcome comments or corrections from the (professional or amateur) election lawyers out there.
Do you actually believe that ‘sniping’ at the NYT’s eats away our chances in 2008? Sniping away at candidates may, but not a newspaper such as the NYT’s. Besides, someone needs to step up.
Ha Ha,
And you what? EVERYONE with a political ad will cite this precedent and demand the same rate.
This could cost the the Slimes MILLIONS...
LOL!
Pretty good joke! If the Slimes doesn’t operate on a “fairness doctrine,” why should the electronic media?
Well, doesn’t Thompson have a record on Social Security and Medicaire issues from his time in the Senate? Whatever that is, you can bet that the ‘Rats will play the same old fear game against him should he get the GOP nomination. The Dem scare act on Social Security and Medicare should have been wearing thin a long time ago, but apparently many senior citizens can’t see how they are being brainwashed.
I know its a rudy pr stunt. Why is you always hear Rudy railing against democrats, where are the REAL conservative candidates, why aren’t they doing the railing. Bush’s policy of playing nice has not worked, will not work.Is media just listening to Rudy.
I should have clarified.
