Two Miami-Dade police officers have been injured in a so-called Tactical Operation gone bad in Cutler Bay.
This is currently a developing story that began at SW 281st Street and 143rd Court in Cutler Bay where the two officers were possibly shot, reportedly with an assault rifle.
Other officers may have also been hurt but only with minor injuries.
At least one officer has been transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
After the shooting, one suspect barricaded himself inside a building at 280th Street and Southwest 143RD Court.
The other suspect took off in a White Honda Accord and began driving on the Turnpike and led police on a short chase before he bailed out at 222nd Street and SW 110th Avenue.
That suspect, described as a chubby white man with long black hair remains on the loose.
Broward County police agencies have been alerted to the shooting of the Miami-Dade Officers.
This is a developing story so keep checking back here on CBS4.COM for updates
He HAS relatives in Ft Lauderdale
Anyone else think the second picture looks like tubbs?
Or the same guy photographed 10 years apart? You know we -really- need an accurate description of this guy. He's loose in a residential area and it will be dark in about 6 hours. They need choppers and especially dogs. The guy left his car and stuff behind so the dogs should get a good scent trail. Unless the perp wwent into the canal nearby. Praying for a quick outcome.....
Local newsies saying they’ve spent the last couple of months covering cop shootings? What’s going on down there?
Yes...local news mentioned Margate....my brother owns property there....and doesn’t live to far from there. I hope they shoot this guy so much it chops him in half.
But it seems like the 2nd pic is clearer and newer and he looks younger.
Two developing scenes, Margate and Deerfield Beach (sp?)? Newsies not sure if they’re related to this.
Ch7 said schools still on lock down, and for parents not to try to pick them up yet
One officer was killed in Pompano Beach about a month ago and another was shot in WPB? I believe...within a month.
There are many shootings going on here. There was a shooting about a mile and a half from me about 2 weeks ago...which is getting way too close for comfort. IT seems there is one in West Palm Beach/Riviera almost every day.

Did you mean to say:
"Someone who is hunting?"
Or celebrating the start of ramadan...
The newschoppers may be up again. They are being held two miles away from the shooting scene.
STILL BEING COVERED BY FNC
Miami Gardens Drive activity (Margate?)
Florida needs to adopt Texas’ attitude towards guns. And just arm everyone. Right now the perps are more heavily armed than the police and law abiding citizens.
that sounds like DC

Mayor’s Biography
Carlos Alvarez became Mayor of Miami-Dade County on November 16, 2004. After a distinguished 28-year public service career, Mr. Alvarez assumed a new level of public service, where he is ushering in a new era of integrity and accountability in local government. On January 23, 2007, voters made an historic decision to change the way Miami-Dade County government is run. Mr. Alvarez now oversees the day-to-day operations of government which employs more than 30,000 employees and operates with a budget of close to $7 billion dollars.
Mayor Alvarez is focused on making Miami-Dade County Government more efficient and responsive to the needs of residents. His focus includes Miami-Dade County’s two largest economic engines, Miami International Airport and the Port of Miami, which combined generate more than $365 billion dollars and 352,000 jobs for our local economy; and improving transportation.
Highlights of his administration include the launch of Miami-Dade County 3-1-1 Answer Center, which is designed to provide fast, efficient non-emergency service to residents with questions or concerns about County government. He has been a strong supporter of planned growth, and fought hard to protect the Urban Development Boundary to ensure future generations will have sufficient clean water, a healthy economy and social well-being.
Mayor Alvarez is also working to promote wellness and safety for seniors. The Mayor’s Initiative on Aging established a series of year-round educational programs and activities specifically geared for senior citizens. Since its inception in January 2006, the program has expanded to provide assistance to seniors living in deteriorating or hurricane-damaged homes.
The Mayor is also working to decriminalize mental illness, realizing that jails are no place for the mentally ill. The Mayor’s Mental Health Task Force trained hundreds of police and correctional officers to respond more effectively to cases involving people with mental illness. It also acquired and developed a first-of-its kind mental health diversion facility to assist the mentally ill in our community.
Mr. Alvarez’s public service career began in 1976, when he joined the Miami-Dade Police Department. He was promoted through all the civil service ranks and on March 31, 1997, he was appointed Director of the Miami-Dade Police Department. For seven years, he managed a department of more than 5,000 employees and a budget of close to half a billion dollars.
His professional affiliations include the National Association of Counties, FBI National Academy, International Association of Chiefs of Police and Florida Police Chiefs Association. He has received numerous awards during his career for his assistance and support of community and civil organizations.
Alvarez holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Florida International University. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
Mayor Alvarez is a native of Cuba. He arrived in the United States with his family at the age of eight. He is the father of two sons and one daughter.
