Israel believes N. Korea selling nuke material to Syria

Wed Sep 12, 5:11 AM ET

Israel recently carried out reconnaissance flights over Syria, taking pictures of possible nuclear installations that Israeli officials believed might have been supplied with material from North Korea, The New York Times reported Thursday.

A US administration official said Israeli officials believed that North Korea might be unloading some of its nuclear material on Syria, the Times reported.

"The Israelis think North Korea is selling to Iran and Syria what little they have left," the unidentified official was quoted as saying.

A US defense official confirmed Tuesday that Israel carried out an air strike well inside Syria last week, apparently to send Damascus a message not to rearm Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, did not know the target of the strike, which was conducted Thursday, but said the US military believed it was to send a message to the Syrians.

"The Israelis are trying to tell the Syrians: 'Don't support a resurgence of Hezbollah in Lebanon.'"

Israel fought a devastating 34-day war in July and August 2006 against Hezbollah, whose missile firepower and use of sophisticated weaponry surprised the Israelis.

Many in U.S. have been insisting that U.S. should negotiate the end of NK's nuclear program BEFORE NK EXPORTS ITS NUCLEAR MATERIALS TO OTHER COUNTRIES.

That is the main Foggy Bottom line. Apparently, NK has already exported it to Syria. Once the red line was a nuclear test, then shifted to containing the spread of nuke materials from NK. So what is the next red line?

On another note, NK and Syria must be still tight. A few years ago, when Ryongchon explosion occurred in N. Korea, Syrian technicians happened to be there to ship some serious hardware(powerful rocket?) to their country, according to some reports. They failed at the time, but now it is apparent that they successfully brought NK nuke materials into Syria.

According to our own rhetoric, expressed in the first several years of the Bush Administration when foreign policy there was controlled by level headed, principled people innoculated against appeasement (as opposed to how things are today) we would have attacked North Korea at least five times now, on five different occasions, for crossing over the Red Line that we stated before the World that they were not to cross.

They have rolled us, it is not even funny.

So true. There are a few red lines I even forgot. I have to go through press accounts to find them out.

First, BDA fiasco and now this. Bush's new policy toward NK turns out to face much more excruciating hurdles than he bargained for.

we would have attacked North Korea at least five times now, on five different occasions, for crossing over the Red Line that we stated before the World that they were not to cross.-————————————————————————————————————————————————————You present an interesting point. It resembles many other factors that are playing out these days. One of which is illegal immigration. Haven’t we all wondered just exactly why it is the U.S. has turned a blind eye to what we perceive to be the problem with our border security all these past few years ?. And now we see that Mexican trucking have finally gotten the green light to deliver goods. And we’re seeing hints of a new North American Continent drivers liscense ?....Continuing with Blind eye policy towards North Korea,Iran,Pakistan,China ect. ect. ect. Makes me wonder if it’s not all in the name of Money,Money,Money. (original U.S. constitution be damned, as long as we keep the money flowing)

John-Loftus.com alert. For those who do not know Mr Loftus, he said in 2003 that North Korea, Libya, and Iraq were in agreement to build a bomb (Libya the money, Iraq the technical, and North Korea the material). This, if true, would somewhat vindicate Mr. Loftus.

But let’s wait and see.

It is reprehensible, and shows signs of turning more and more into Clinton’s policy as the days of his emasculated, lame duck administration evaporate.

Cheezy, it is always about MONEY. If I am not mistaken, that was Benedict Arnold’s motivation, if not the Falcon and the Snowman.

Yup, they crossed the no-go line so we're going at 'em. The major question is whether it will be in Fall 2007 or Summer 2008.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,296450,00.html

"... Political and military officers, as well as weapons of mass destruction specialists at the State Department, are now advising Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that the diplomatic approach favored by Burns has failed and the administration must actively prepare for military intervention of some kind. Among those advising Rice along these lines are John Rood, the assistant secretary for the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation; and a number of Mideast experts, including Ambassador James Jeffrey, deputy White House national security adviser under Stephen Hadley and formerly the principal deputy assistant secretary for Near Eastern affairs.

Consequently, according to a well-placed Bush administration source, "everyone in town" is now participating in a broad discussion about the costs and benefits of military action against Iran, with the likely timeframe for any such course of action being over the next eight to 10 months, after the presidential primaries have probably been decided, but well before the November 2008 elections ..."
