Battle for the Best and Brightest (Sandy Berger, advising Hillary)
msnbc.com ^ | Sept. 6, 2007 | Micheal Hirsh

Snip, The more experienced Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, has relied largely on her husband and a triumvirate of senior officials from his presidency—former secretary of state Madeleine Albright, former U.N. ambassador Richard Holbrooke and former national-security adviser Sandy Berger (who tries to keep a low profile after pleading guilty in 2005 to misdemeanor charges of taking classified material without authorization). Hillary also consults with an informal group of 30 less prominent advisers. But she has shown increasing anxiety over Obama's active recruiting effort—so much so that she recently hired Lee Feinstein, a prominent and well-connected scholar at the Council on Foreign Relations, to launch an "outreach" program similar to Obama's. Perhaps the hardest loss for the Clintonites is Greg Craig, the former lawyer for President Clinton who, along with former Albright protégée Susan Rice, a Clinton-era assistant secretary of state for Africa, and former national-security adviser Tony Lake, is considered one of Obama's closest confidants.

Hey if Hillary plays her cards right, maybe Obama will pick her to be his running mate.

The problem is that Hillary’s not dumb; evil yes, dumb no. She knows how to play hard ball, and Osama had better be as clean as they come because she’ll find and exploit any perceived weakness. I can’t stand Osama, yet I do feel pity because he’s up against the most ruthless of all the Dems.

and former national-security adviser Sandy Berger (who tries to keep a low profile after pleading guilty in 2005 to misdemeanor charges of taking classified material without authorization).

He lost his security clearance for only three years. So by January 2009, he'll be ready to have his old job (National Security Advisor) back.

Is that a roll of top secret docs and cash in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?

* Why didn't Sandy Burglar complete the court-ordered lie detector test?

* Was the construction site dumping ground for the stolen documents simply a drop-point for someone from the Klintons to pick up - and ultimately destroy - damning documents?

* Is the appointment to Hillary's campaign a way to keep him close and keep him quiet - or just a thank you gesture from the Klintons for his "good work" at the National Archives?
