For Clintons, An Unwelcome Echo
The Washington Post ^ | September 11, 2007 | staff

Talk about déjà vu. Pressed by questions about a scandal-tarred fundraiser, a candidate named Clinton decides to return hundreds of thousands of dollars. The politician's operation promises to conduct criminal background checks on big fundraisers in the future. And it leaks its decisions at night after a busy day in hopes of burying the news and minimizing the damage.

In 1997, the pol, of course, was Bill Clinton and the tainted money came from folks such as John Huang, Charlie Trie, Johnny Chung and Pauline Kanchanalak. A decade later, it's Hillary Rodham Clinton's turn to write refund checks to deflect attention from a bundler named Norman Hsu.

The eerie echoes of the last Clinton campaign finance scandal are what make the Hsu case so problematic for the current Democratic presidential frontrunner. If it were just a matter of the facts of this particular case, it might be the sort of bad-news story that comes and goes, forgotten long before anyone shows up at a ballot box to case a vote. (SNIP)

The Hsu case illustrates the challenges for Hillary Clinton in defining her past. (SNIP)Whitewater, cattle futures, the White House travel office, Vincent Foster -- have been absent from the campaign trail this time(snip) The Hsu case has nothing to do with those episodes in a direct sense, of course. An apparel manufacturer in New York, he grew up in Hong Kong before moving to the United States in 1969 to attend college and eventually raised money for Sen. John F. Kerry's presidential campaign in 2004 before joining the Clinton team this time. When a 15-year-old arrest warrant from an investment fraud conviction emerged, he failed to appear at a hearing and was later caught in Colorado.

Only a naive fool could believe that all these Chinese nationals — popping up around the Clintons since their Arkansas days - was coincidence...

That same fool, would also believe the Clintons believed it was a coincidence also...

These ILLEGAL donors of uncounted MILLIONS, were most likely being managed by the Communist Chinese Government and/or the Chinese military/industrial complex.

Perhaps it was also a coincidence that Bernie of Laural, another of Clinton’s top contributors while President - got the necessary approvals to transfer ICBM technology to China as a result of an “accident”....

The Chinese have owned the Clintons since day one....
And they got their money’s worth....

You’d think even the Clinton kool aid drinkers would have enough of these two grifters.

They are purely corrupt and without moral code. There is not one thing they wouldn’t consider doing to achieve absolute power. Shame, shame on you Bill and Hillary. You’ll get yours one day.

Deja Vu?

More like a recurring nightmare.

With a laugh track, of course...

Hummm...is Hsu here legally, or did he simply over-stay his student visa? Could he be a ChiCom spy? Inquiring minds want to know.

I was thinking same, although just him having accident would be enough for the sympathy vote

Let’s not leave out Sandy Berger, National Archives thief and former Washington lobbyist for trade with China.

“The MSM hasn’t given this much thought has it?”

Quite a bit of thought, apparently. That’s why the Post candy coats the issue for the Clintons. If it was a Republican, it would be on the front page.

“Mistakes were made.”

There, that’s the perfect excuse and the end of the situation. Oh, and we need stricter campaign finance laws. Solved.

The Clintons’ strategy, whenever someone is bold (and unbiased) enough to ask a question pertaining to one of the myriad scandals, is to exclaim, “That’s old news.” That excuse should be met with: “The past is prologue to the future.”
