What hypocrites. They’re all for amnesty for illegal aliens, but, hey, Mexican trucks taking money away from our Union contributors? No way, Jose...

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, who drafted a Republican alternative to Dorgan's amendment, said the attempt to block the trucks appeared to be about limiting competition and may amount to discrimination against Mexico.

Ah, yes, there is the real John Cornyn. The same guy who has introduced a bill to create the SPP for years in the senate and tried to push that language into the last Senate Amnesty.

It’s a shame a Democrat had to do this and make the party look good.

Then again, at least someone did it.

We have no NAFTA obligation; its a one way street.

I’d love to see the teamsters get burned, but this NAFTA crap is a bad deal every way you look at it.

There was a FRONTLINE show on PBS quite awhile ago where it said that the “Lawyers” that wrote NAFTA actually wrote loopholes into the law and then went to Mexico and began to sue this country using the loopholes.

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, who drafted a Republican alternative to Dorgan's amendment, said the attempt to block the trucks appeared to be about limiting competition and may amount to discrimination against Mexico.

"I would never allow an unsafe truck on our highways, particularly Texas highways," he said.

When is Cornyn up for reelection? He needs to be FIRED! I never thought I would see the day that I would agree with the unions and the RATS but this is something that I'm very happy about. I KNOW the RATs are only doing this because they want the union support. The GOP is too stupid to understand that they're throwing the election to the RATS in 08! Can you say "Madam President?"

I don’t care about the politics involved in this. I don’t want a bunch of MX truckers driving 100,000 pound rigs on our U.S. highways.

I wonder what happened to the suggestion that all drivers of trucks from Mexico or ANYWHERE - be able to read and speak ENGLISH..and pass the tests for an American Commercial Truck driving license in ENGLISH?

Hmmmm. Whatever the reason, we don’t need Mexican trucks up here blocking the roads all winter with balt tires, no chains, and the tanks full of No. 2 (the consistency of thin jello at -30F) waiting for spring.

If Mexican trucks don’t have to meet safety standards, why should American trucks?

Just one more way to keep the cost of doing business way up there for American companies.

Wait a minute, how did the crooning Sen. Teddie vote?

Isn’t he and the entire Democratic party the ones courting the Spanish vote.

Then they go and stick their finger in their eye?

I can’t believe the Congress has finally come to the aid of the citizens of America.

Ya know, once in a while they get it right.

Nah, that’s giving congress too much credit.

There’s gotta be some political gain for them.

What is troubling about this is that Mexican Airlines must meet FAA/NTSB standards to fly in to the US why shouldn’t Mexican truckers.
