Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick said at a news conference this afternoon he was "absolutely blown away" by a jury's decision awarding a total of $6.5 millon to two former Detroit police officers in a whistleblower lawsuit.
A jury ruled in favor of two former Detroit police officers Tuesday, awarding them $6.5 million in a whistleblower lawsuit that churned out allegations of misdeeds by the mayor's staff and extramarital affairs by the mayor himself.

At least the City of Detroit showed up for the trial. In years past, the City was sooo disorganized that they routinely didn’t show up for civil trials. Accordingly, Wayne County was one of the worst for average lawsuit judgments.
So, does the mayor (and his guilty sidekick) cough up the dough, or are the taxpayers of Detroit (they do have taxpayers there, don’t they?) going to pick up the tab?

The same as every other employer in such a case — the employer pays. However, we’ll see how the judgment is split up, since Hizzonur might have his own insurance that covers such things as well.
My recollection of Detroit government is that the Mayoral election is a nonpartisan race. At least that's what I remember being taught in grade school.

The RNC needs to hire babysitters for all the senate and house republicans. root out the creeps, pervs and crooks. There are tons of quality conservatives out there that we don’t need to hang onto the Larry Craigs of the GOP. Let the Dems be the party of no standards.
And more money out of all Michigan taxpayer pockets since the Canadian will dig deep and the state as a whole will subsidize the corruption that keep getting elected in Detroit.
