A couple of Taybeh locals enjoying the local Taybeh Probably one of the things one least expects to come across on a visit to the Israeli-occupied West Bank is a high-spirited beer festival in full swing. But that is exactly what visitors to the small Palestinian Christian village of Taybeh were treated to at the weekend.
The village is home to a successful family-owned microbrewery, the Taybeh Brewing Company, whose co-owner, Nadim Khoury, and his sister-in-law, Maria Khoury, staged its third annual Oktoberfest, modelled on the great beer-drinking event in Munich.
One of the curiosities of the original Bavarian version is that it starts in September - something to do with timing of the brewing process.
This year, Taybeh's Oktoberfest also took place in September - although Mr Khoury says he brought it forward out of respect for his Muslim neighbours, who begin their holy month of Ramadan this week.
On Saturday and Sunday, thousands of Palestinians and international visitors milled about in the pleasant late summer weather listening to musical performers - Christians and Muslims.
Many visitors quaffed different varieties of Taybeh beer, at 10 shekels ($1.60) a glass, though Mr Khoury was a very generous host and many a glass was topped up for free.

..................
The original Okoberfest always ends the first Sunday in October, October 7 this year. It always begins two weeks and a day prior to that, Saturday September 22 this year. I thought the start / finish dates were defined by the first time it was held, which was a wedding celebration for the king of Bavaria.
Okay, I’ve heard everything now. Octoberfest hosted by Christian beer making Palestinians in Israel. Do Jews like to celebrate a German holiday? Everyone likes beer, that goes without saying, but Octoberfest in Israel? I am confused, can someone clarify this situation for me, my brain is working overtime here.
This is in the West Bank, Jews couldn't go there safely. You'll not in the article he refers to international tourists, Muslims and Christians attending.
I think he's looking for publicity/support. There have been a few previous articles on him, he's been having some problems with Islamists as an alcohol producer. The more beer drinkers the better, I suppose.
We need to put the entire region on a pork and beer diet until they come to their senses.
The BBC doesn’t mention it (naturally), but there have been problems in Taybeh with respect to persecution of Arab Christians by their Muslim neighbors, and part of it has to do with alcohol consumption.

Agreed 100%.
And what about a ‘Frau’s nacht’?????
:-)
That would ‘ease their springs’ a bit!!
Didn't you see the thread the other day about Jewish Nazis in Israel?
The article lost me when it said “Israeli-occupied West Bank.”
Pfffft.
Still, just based on the article, the beer-making Christians seem decent enough.
Israel should still be picky about checking what crosses the border, though, considering the number of Palestinians who blow themselves up.
But, as SJackson pointed out, Israelis probably wouldn't be very safe going--though there are plenty of settlers in the West Bank.
I can't blame you. This story planted too many entries in your registry, and now you'll have to download a utility to clean it out.
