Kerrey Edges Toward a Senate Comeback
The New York Sun ^ | September 11, 2007 | By JOSH GERSTEIN

Posted on 09/11/2007 12:23:43 PM PDT by syriacus

The president of the New School, J. Robert Kerrey, is a step closer to a possible bid to return to the Senate following Senator Hagel's announcement yesterday that he won't seek re-election next year.

If Mr. Kerrey runs and wins, the Nebraska seat would switch from the Republican to the Democratic column. That would be a boon to the Democrats, who currently have a narrow 51–49 majority in the chamber.

However, Mr. Kerrey is far from a party-line Democrat, particularly on the central issue of the moment, the Iraq war. In addition, if Nebraskans replace Mr. Hagel with Mr. Kerrey, they will be trading a Republican who has called the war "hopeless" and "an absolute replay of Vietnam" for a Democrat who has insisted that the invasion was justified and that an abrupt withdrawal would hand an unacceptable win to Al Qaeda.

I have some doubts Kerrey could win back his seat. He’s been living in New York since he left the Senate.

Bob Kerrey is not conservative Dem at all. His lifetime ACU rating is 7%. He is a Dem in the mold in the Barbara Boxer, Ted Kennedy, and Hillary Clinton range. The New York Sun is attempting to fool the conservative folks of NE.

I had the same thought myself, when I first read this in the paper this morning.

Kerrey will have a hard time shedding his NY-ness.

Maybe Nebraska is just not all that conservative? True they go republican in presidential elections, but what’s with all this Bob Kerrey, Chuck Hagel and Ben Nelson stuff?

A RAT is a RAT, nuff said.

The Sun is a fairly conservative paper, which is why I subscribe to it and have stopped my subscriptions to the NY Times and Newsday.

But the Sun loves Bloomberg, a Democrat who cynically posed as a Republican in order to become NY's "bossy-est" Boston-born mayor.

The Sun was even hoping Bloomberg would consider a run for the presidency.

Photos of Kerry surrounded by Norman Hsu and Bernie Schwartz should be enough to sink any future candidancy.

Why is he considering running in Neb. seems like his is a New Yorker as much as Hillary.

You're right, Kerrey has strong Hsu connections.

Fugitive Scandal May Pose a Hurdle for the New School (Bob Kerrey loves his Hsu)

How did someone like Mr. Hsu make his way to the New School’s board?

He was a mover and shaker who was recruited by Bob Kerrey, the university’s president and a former senator from Nebraska, one of several people associated with the school who are prominent in Democratic politics or political fund-raising circles. Until last week Mr. Kerrey had been one of the few people speaking out in Mr. Hsu’s defense, calling him a “terrific member” of the board who was being unfairly pilloried.

Bob Kerry is like a bad penny - he just keeps coming back. As President of the New School in NY, he keeps good company with Board Members Mr. Hsu (big fundraiser for Hitlery Rotten) and Bernard Schwartz (of Loral fame in dealing on behalf of Billy Clintoooooooon) in selling the U.S. Satellite Technology to the Chinese.

When Clintoooooooon was pushing the big tax increase, Bob Kerrey provided the tie vote to set up VP Al Bore to break the tie. At that time, Kerrey said on the floor of the Senate, "This is a Bad budget for the American People, but I will not give my vote to the other side of the aisle to bring down MY president!"

He is only another Democrap Political Hack!

Well, there is an old-fashioned prairie populist Democratic tradition in Nebraska - that was William Jennings Bryan’s home state. They will from time to time elect Democrats who at least pretend to be moderates and break from the national liberal mainstream. If you’re a cynic you’d say that’s why a guy who turned New York ivory tower academic has maintained support for the war in Iraq, because he wants to use that to show Nebraskans he’s a pro-defense moderate.

The only thing going for Kerrey is that he dated Debra Winger.

Maybe he’s secretly hoping there will be a vacancy in the NY senate delegation soon?

So what? Chuck Hagel has a lifetime ACU rating of 82, and from what I've seen posted here on FreeRepublic you'd think he's one of the most radical left-wing members of the U.S. Senate.
