If Democrat Mark Warner jumps into the Virginia Senate race for 2008, he will start out with a large lead over two Republicans expected to campaign for the job.
In a match-up of former Virginia Governors, a Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds Warner leading Jim Gilmore by twenty percentage points, 54% to 34%. Warner also starts the season with a comfortable lead over Virginia Congressman Tom Davis. The Rasmussen Reports poll shows Warner attracting 57% of the vote while Davis earns 30%.
In 2008, Virginia voters will select a new face to replace the retiring Republican Senator John Warner. The retiring Republican Senator is not related to the Democratic Governor who might seek to replace him.

Also Va could be Hillary Country.
Hillary 44
Rudy 41
Hillary 46
Fred 44
Hillary has a huge lead among people under 30. Rudy and Fred have leads among the elder folks.
Hello Senator Marky Mark?
As time goes on this will flip... after yesterday... elections are not static and we have more than a year to go.
LLS
not good. i know the election is over a year away, but most people know hillary. if bozo the clown, let alone fred or rudy, isnt polling ahead of hillary, even this far out, in va of all places, we are in trouble.
How many of those polled knew which “Warner” they were selecting?
We’d better beat Landrieu to offset this one, because I suspect this race is in the bag for M. Warner.
If Virginia goes blue in 2008 (and it just might) I don’t think it would be for Hillary.
If Democrat Mark Warner jumps into the Virginia Senate race for 2008, he will start out with a large lead over two Republicans expected to campaign for the job.
Why does this have to be news? Everyone on Earth knows this would happen. The best thing for the Republicans is to NOT encourage Mark Warner to jump in the race. Why are Republicans so stupid??????
1) Most of them. That question isn't as much of an issue as it was the first time Mark ran.
2) Not that it makes a difference anyway. Mark Warner's votes won't be much worse than John Warner's.
The man I would like to see run in VA is Oliver North.
I remember similar predictions in the summer of 04 that Va would go to Kerry. Va is unfortunately (thanks to NoVa) becoming more liberal, but it won’t be there yet by next year.
Although I view Virginia from a distance, it appears to me that the state has been shifting leftward, presumably because people are moving in from the Northeast and because the DC suburbs are growing.
I’d say it’s less conservative than it used to be.
Well, as a Virginian from the western part of the state, I think I can safely say that Hillary has no chance among the voters there. They simply can’t stand the woman, even if she is a Democrat.
Correct, Northern Virginia and the Commonwealth’s major cities are now mostly dominated by transplanted liberal North Easterners who moved there after wrecking their own states. The Commonwealth’s rural areas are almost 100% Conservative though.
Past Presidential Races
2004 Bush 54 Kerry 46
2000 Bush 52 Gore 45
1996 Dole 48 Clinton 46
Judging from Rasmussen, Hillary has solidified the Dem base, while the GOP base is fragmented.
Wouldn't that be sweet - especially after the old fool Warner screwed North's chances last time.
Ollie would be great.....or Bill Bolling. We need to find better choices than RINO Davis or Mr. Gilmore.
And, in Presidential terms, the polls in Virginia have been remarkably unreliable.
In 2004, even though Kerry knew to pull his operation out of Virginia in October, the "polls" and Mark Warner were telling us Kerry would carry Virginia.
We were getting those same reports on Election Day up until the polls closed. News outlets were reporting that exit polls showed Kerry taking Virginia. Bush carried the state by 8 pts.
As difficult as it is to admit, Virginia is trending to the left, largely in part to the incompetence and RINO-ism of the state GOP. Virginia will be in play for the RATS in 2008, but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that they'll carry the state. Especially not Hillary.
