Don’t care if about the color of the perps was purple. They need to be in prison for a long time...
Even then I have a problem with thought crime. I think it's unamerican to be charged with something just because of the way you think. Hate isn't a crime, but it can make existing crimes more heinous. So racial, religious, etc., motivation for a crime should definitely be considered during sentencing, and the sentencing guidelines should reflect increased penalties where such motivation has been established.
What is needed in this case (as well as that heinous one in CT where the family was filled) is a speedy trial, appeal process and execution.
When perps such as this are caught red handed, and there is no argument as to what they did, a clear message needs to be sent that such men (and woman) are not fit to walk in a civilized society.
We may find out that this woman was working off her meth tab with the hillbilly rapists (expression from Pulp Fiction) and got a bit unruly herself. In any event, my money says she was not the little black church lady carrying a basket of cookies over to her grand daughters’ house. I predict she played a part in it other than innocent victim.
So without an iota of evidence to go on, you are faulting the victim?

She must have been dressed like a slut and was asking for it. /s

So post #40
This does not appear to be the case.
Ooops! Then the hillybilly rapists will grow old in jail, which is not a very appealing prospect in West Virginia.
Whether she was a church lady or a cheap prostitute is irrelevant. If these perps kept her in captivity and tortured her for a week, they should should spend the rest of their natural lives not just in prison but UNDER the prison.
I agree. They deserve the harshest punishment.
But I would like to email AP, CNN, and any other news outfit outside WV and ask why are you reporting on this story when you ignored the atrocity that went on in Knoxville last January where 2 people ended up dead after being raped, tortured, and mutilated over a period of hours and days?! That crime makes the Dec 2000 Wichita killngs pale in comparison.
The media bias is totally obvious.
It’s also where “October Sky” / “Rocket Boys” author and NASA engineer Homer Hickam is from.
Thoughts and ideas should not be crime in a free society and speech is protected (First Amendment). The “ yelling fire in a crowded theather” example stands out as an exception.
Using the “N” word should never be a crime.
Once that principle is established all other words follow from “fag” to “abortionist” to eventually “liberal.”
“Hate” laws are a slippery slope to losing freedom of speech.
Punish people for what they do, not what they say or think.
Once we start punishing people for what they say or think we resemble Cuba and China, not the United States of America.
And of course these scum deserve an immmense amount of punishment for what they did.
And up from the ground come the bubbling crude - people that is - not oil.
We must never get into the business of legislating thoughts and beliefs. It’s worth and demands an organized, all-fronts fight to stop such laws being enacted.
It is happening in Europe and some US states now. Churches who consider the homosexuality act a sin are expected to hire them and in England some preachers have been arrested for speaking from the pulpit about these unnatural lifestyles. The Boy Scouts in many places in the US are being discriminated against for not accepting them as Scout leaders.
Did CNN ever cover the story about the white couple that was raped, tortured, and murdered by a group of African-American criminals?
Weren’t news agencies claiming that they didn’t carry that story was because it was a local story with no national interest?
I wonder what’s different about this one.
P.S. I hope the people involved in the abuse of this poor women get to spend a long time in prison.
I am against the designation “hate crime” All crimes of this nature are “hate crimes.” Color doesnt enter into it.
I hear a strumming banjo.......
