>>>OTOH, if a conservative makes a thoughtful, considered criticism of the left the MSM often goes into frenzied meltdown mode, calling it “bashing” and grossly exaggerating and distorting what was said.<<<

The did the exact same thing with Romney and Thompson when they made similar statements against the lunatics on the left.

One of the things that I hated to see at the debates the other night was the candidates savaging themselves over the Petraeus report. Yeah, Romney caught the brunt of it, and I’m a Romney fan, but he was the one who set things up right.

Had they orchestrated things well, they could have remained a bit hesitant to give their opinions on the troop surge until General Petraeus actually gave his report and demanded the left did the same.

When the Schumers of the world went running for camera, it would have been a great time to unload on them as being utterly ridiculous to pretend to know more than the commanders of US forces.

EX:

“I’m not sure who Charles Schumer thinks he is, but I for one do not pretend to be more knowlegeable assessing a military conflict than a Four Star General. Common sense and courtesy dictate you wait to see what he says on the matter before you weigh in on it. Some of our esteemed Senators obviously seem lacking in those qualities.”

MoveOn needs to move on a long way off a short pier.

Hunter had so many interviews from this, and rightfully so.

Rush Limbaugh played a clip of Hunter, too.

Duncan Hunter: I think that my great friend, Ike Skelton from Missouri, conservative democrat with sons that are in the uniform, has done a good job with respect to the ham and eggs of making sure we continue the equipment procurements and the readiness procurements. Of course he has largely followed the administrations budget. And also we are increasing the size of the Army and Marine Corp. The administration has finally acquiesce our recommendation and they are recommending that this year.

Of course on the side where the democrats put their political hat on, and that is with respect to policy in Iraq. Obviously the person calling the shots there is Nancy Pelosi. And I think she is calling the wrong shots. I thought the statement by the democrat whip, Jim Clyburn, who said, “good news from General Petraeus in September would be bad news for the democrat party”. The idea that good news off the battlefield is bad for a political party in the United States, I thought that was a tragedy that that statement was made and a sorry reflection on the fact that the democrats look at Iraq not through the prism of national interests; but through the prism of politics. That is bad for our country.

I like that great old Senator Henry ‘Scoop’ Jackson who was one of the great democrat strong defense leaders of our time. He said, ‘in time of war national policy should emanate from our shore with one voice’. He liked to arm wrestle over spending on transportation and other things; but he supported the President in matters of national security. And the idea that the democrats are pulling away from us even before General Petraeus has made his statement, prepping the ground for the statement, that is a tragedy for our country.

It was more than criticism too. MoveOn took out a full page ad. I thought about scanning it and uploading it. Instead, I put it on the bottom of the critter cage.

Hunter was part of the Armed Services Committee HEARING and he first brought it up in his opening statement. He also was on CNN, FOx and MSNBC prior to the hearing and mentioned it. A video of his opening statement was all over the blogosphere within minutes of him making it. The MSM even included Hunter’s criticisms in its first articles.

Sometimes they are slow, but not yesterday.

If you were following the breakneck schedule that Rep. Hunter has been following, with his very busy campaign appearances, and keeping up with his day job as the same time, you might appear to be a bit on the lackluster side yourself.

Pep. Hunter, statesman and diplomat, instinctively knows when to hold and when to fold. I trust his judgement in that there really isn’t much anyone can do about MoveOn, so why put up a pretense that there is? Grandstanding is not his style.

You must have missed his opening statement. That was teh time for any political theater, and he delivered in spades. His followup questions were to get the info that he wanted. Imagine that.
