I had this question posed to me on the O'Reilly/Paul thread that was pulled in defference to this one and didn't get the chance to answer it. I'll do my best to answer it here:

How the heck did that moonbat (Paul) get a (R) behind his name, I’ll never know.

In this case, the (R) stands for RETARDED!

A better question is, “How does the GOP remove that (R) from behind his name?”. I’m serious. Is there any way? Ru just gets nuttier and nuttier, and I’m afraid he may cause irreparable damage to the Republican party through guilt by association if he is not removed.
