Top US General: Iran Fighting "Proxy War in Iraq"

September 10, 2007

Turkish Press

WASHINGTON -- Iran is fighting a "proxy war" through Shiite militias against the Iraqi state and US-led forces in the war-torn nation, US war commander General David Petraeus said Monday.

"It is increasingly apparent to both coalition and Iraqi leaders that Iran, through the use of the Quds force, seeks to turn the Iraqi special groups into a Hezbollah-like force to serve its interests and fight a proxy war against the Iraqi state and coalition forces in Iraq," Petraeus said.

Petraeus was testifying at a crucial hearing of the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs and Armed Services committees seen as a key moment for US strategy on Iraq.

Iran AND Syria based upon Sen. Lieberman’s statements earlier this afternoon.

I wonder if the Iraqi army will ever be in a condition to fight off another Iranian invasion — even Saddam had to use mustard gas to reach a stalemate.

“I wonder if the Iraqi army will ever be in a condition to fight off another Iranian invasion — even Saddam had to use mustard gas to reach a stalemate.”

That’s why regime change in Iran is essential.

But unlike the proxy war in Vietnam, we must not let leftist protesters and lily-livered politicians stay our hand.

“I wonder if the Iraqi army will ever be in a condition to fight off another Iranian invasion....”

Actually, Iraq invaded Iran, not the other way around.

I wonder whose atomic weapons might be stationed in Syria? You know, the ones the Israeli Air Force was doing a recon on recently in the middle of the night. [Cough...the muppet from North Korea?]

Actually, Iraq invaded Iran, not the other way around.

Saddam invaded shortly after the Mullah revolution. The new Iranian regime was new and much weaker back then. The Iranian mullahs then resorted to suicide battalions to stop Saddam. Then Saddam responded with mustard and possibly nerve gas to wipe out the advancing suicide battalions. Thus a stalemate occurred. That war front must have been horrific.

Our politicians and their PACs will continue to ignore General Petraeus (along with the British Commander who said the same) and to keep the focus on Al Qaeda, Iraq and Afghanistan. That includes many in our own Party: importers and others. They don’t want our military forces in Iran, because that would cause freight fuel to go up today.

And as we shy away from Iran, Russian and other nations will get militarily closer with Iran. Tomorrow’s War will be large, indeed, and our Commander-in-Chief then (from either US political party) will have much experience as a celebrity but no military experience.

Go ahead, big shots. Scoff at Duncan Hunter’s combat training and Armed Services Committee experience. Keep scoffing in your offices at men who’ve had combat training. ...remember who the enemy murdered, before you called 911? The enemy is really after you.

I wonder if General Petraeus will also be replaced after telling the truth.
