GREENVILLE, S.C. - Republican presidential contender Fred Thompson said Monday that while Osama bin Laden needs to be caught and killed, the terrorist mastermind would get the due process of law.

Due process under UCMJ or due process under the Judiciary...two VERY different processes.

" Saddam had due process."

" Worked for me. "
Yup, the best kind of process, he is not saying a word now and not causing trouble.

Due process is for U.S. Citizens.

Bin Laden is entitled to a “fast lane” execution; nothing more.

In America we do not shoot captives without due process. Fred wants him killed or captured ASAP. If he happens to be captured, then due process is required by the Constitution. It is also what separates us from them

He did say he would send him to Gitmo, but some of the rhetoric does sound similar to this article in 2004 that Freepers rightfully slammed.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/12/26/elec04.prez.dean.bin.laden/ Although I am glad his campaign spokesman said they only want him alive for the intelligence he could supply. I am not 100% against what he said, but I do fear an alive bin laden and the threats of his followers (kidnappings etc in return for his release), I would much rather have him dead. I just thought it was humorous that the same thing could be said by two different people, yet get such vastly different reactions. Ah what a difference a few years can make.

It’s almost as if he’s embracing the failed Clinton policy of treating the war on terror as a law enforcement matter.

I like the kind of due process that Uday and Qusay received.

I'd say that'd be a fair model for "due process." [grin]

(...although I did, also, particularly enjoy the process that was duely received by that fellow that was hanged a few days after Saddam with a particularly long drop for his weight.)

Personally I lean toward the Zarqawi treatment. Every bone in his body was liquified.

I truly think he would do a good job on the WOT, I am just surprised that when almost anything is reported on what he says, his spokesmen has to come out an clarify it. Along with his supporters here. In my opinion if he can't say it correctly the first time he is going to be in a lot of trouble.

I am not comparing Dean and Fred, far from it, I just cringed when I read the story because it reminded me so much of this story from 3 years ago, and the reaction here on Free Republic. I may try and search the archives for it, but I am really bad at doing that, I can never find what I want.

I am sure I will get flamed for bringing back this article, but I cannot truly think of anything worse than bin laden in captivity. His followers would go to desperate measures to get him out, and although I never want our Leaders to lead based on fear, I think common sense must be used also, and a dead bin laden is the only answer!

Not "treatment." It's called "process" -- due process!

If somebody could tell me just how this differs from standard leftocrat bilge, I'd be right appreciative....

Due process applies to every person that the United States takes alive. If he is taken alive by the United States he is entitled to some form of "due process". Such "due process" could be to have a hearing to turn him over to the Saudi Royal Family, or to have him taken to Gitmo and waterboarded until there he is of no further use to us and then send him before a military tribunal.

Everyone is looking for FDT to make a big slip and fall from his perch. The MSM is scared to death of FDT and are comfortable with Giuliani. We need to get committed to Fred and stay committed to Fred. He seems like a straightforward guy and straightforward guys can always be made to look bad when you take their statements out of context.

I see you have been zotted.

I like the Saddam style Due process. Rope is cheep, I also like the way the Iraqi’s did it, had a trial, found him guilty, and down the chute he went forthrightly! Works just great!

Thanks, Ironically look at comment #12

This is war, Howie, not an episode of Law & Order. With this kind of thinking sixty years ago, we'd all be doing the goosestep right now...

I realize that Dean was speaking of bringing bin laden back to face a trial, and Gitmo would be no picnic, but I want vengeance, I want him dead!!!!!!!
