WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A liberal advocacy group's print ad attacking Gen. David Petraeus drew a firestorm of criticism from both sides of the aisle on Monday.

The ad, running in Monday's edition of the New York Times, shows a picture of Petraeus. Bold letters spell out "General Petraeus or General Betray us?"

Moveon.org Political Action, which paid for the ad, accuses Petraeus of "cooking the books for the White House" on progress being made in Iraq and calls him "a military man constantly at war with the facts."

White House spokesman Tony Snow called the ad, running the same day the general testified before Congress about Iraq, a "boorish, childish, unworthy attack."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid expressed frustration Monday with the ad.

When asked early Monday if this was the right message for his party to send, the Nevada Democrat curtly answered, "No."

In a separate conversation, a senior Democratic leadership aide called the ad an "unnecessary distraction" and said Democrats are prepared to focus on "Petraeus executing a mismanaged mission."

Reid's decision to distance himself from the ad came as several Republican leaders called on Democrats to condemn it.

When....just when...are we going to start jailing these people? At the very least we should sue them out of existence.

It’s more of the same crap we get from the Rats, MSM and leftist morons everyday so there’s no Democrat condemnation here. They can’t win with facts so they have to either make crap up or slander the messengers.

The ad is correct. General Petraeus did betray he socialists because he is an American. Statements during wars in the past similar to this ad used to be considered treason and the offenders harshly punished. Now we do nothing to punish the offenders.

It isn’t “these people” it’s just one traitorous weasel named George Soros who is paying the bills and guiding policy at moveon.org - the masquerade that moveon speaks for anyone other than Soros is a figment of the imagination of the MSM.

The DUers have been calling the General “Betrayus” for some time now. Not a coincidence, I’m sure.

Disrespect is a trait that runs through the whole of the left.

They respect no one, including themselves. Our enemies get that place of distinction with the Democrats and the left.

The screen time those two howling banshee Code Pinkies got should all by itself be worth three or four points in support of Petreus and the war. Let’s hope the nightly news includes them in the story.

Why jail them? The more they speak the better the chance of a Republican president in 2008. It’s a free campaign ad for GOP

Wasn’t it Rush who was talking about the Dems bragging about their fifth column prowess? At any rate, whoever it was, the Dems are very well aware of what is going on in their name, or at the very least with their “wink and a nod” support.

The idea they repudiate the add, is ludicrous.

David Gregory is doing it right now by claiming Petraeus is honorable and honest but because the left is angry it’s ok to slander his name.

During WWI, anyone who criticized or questioned the war effort or the Administration was subject to arrest and imprisonment. Why can’t we do that today?

Exactly. CNN giving it's Commie brothers political cover as with this quote:

In a separate conversation, a senior Democratic leadership aide called the ad an "unnecessary distraction" and said Democrats are prepared to focus on "Petraeus executing a mismanaged mission."

Why the secrecy?

They’re all secret butt buddies no matter how much in public they put on the show. When Jefferson got slammed look at how many Republicans came to his defense yet the favor is never returned. This type of cover has extended to even treason now.

MSNBC was talking about the Demons, excuse me, Dems, calling the General a liar. He felt it could backfire on them because the American people are going to believe a General that has been in Iraq over politicians living their lives in Washington.
