Dems heap praise on Petraeus, Crocker
The Hill ^ | Sept. 10, 2007 | Klaus Marre

At the beginning of the highly anticipated testimony of Gen. David Petraeus and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker, top Democrats went out of their way to praise the two officials, while Republicans tried to tie the majority to a controversial ad that refers to Petraeus as “General Betray Us.”

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) called Petraeus a good friend and labeled him and Crocker “two of America’s finest.”

Skelton also moved quickly to have anti-war protesters thrown out of the crowded hearing room.

“Out they go,” Skelton said when one was escorted out.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) called Crocker and Petraeus “two of our nation’s most capable public servants.”

Still, Republicans sought to tie Democrats to MoveOn.org’s controversial ad. House Armed Services Committee ranking Republican Duncan Hunter (Calif.) opened his remarks by letting Petraeus know that “the last week or so has been spent attacking your credibility, with major attacks here in the United States, some of them emanating from right here ...”

Hunter added that it is “an outrage that we spent the last week prepping the ground, bashing the credibility of a general officer whose trademark is integrity, who was unanimously supported by the U.S. Senate for his position.”

Skelton forcefully responded, saying “that the capability, the integrity, the intelligence, and the wisdom of our two witnesses requires nothing but admiration from me and those of us about to receive their testimony.”

What’s the matter, Klaus. Didn’t you stick around for Congressman Lantos’ tirade?

In some quarters, politicians would have been flogged for the things said of a great soldier like the General.

Total BS, Skelton allowed Lantos to read his total condemnation of Patraeus, never once questioning his portrayal of the General as a "lying Bush mouthpiece" allowed the Code Pink Commies to rant on and on before having them removed.

Ike Skelton, like many dims residing in conservative leaning areas, pretend to defend America and the troops but are willing dupes to the traitorous Left.

I am extremely angry right now. I am sick and tired of the TRAITORS in the democrat party.

They should all be tried for TREASON. If they keep this up, they will start a Civil War here in the US.

I certainly don’t plan to loose this country to a bunch of left wing commie Marxist pukes who are more interested in gaining power. In doing so, they are willing to destroy this country.

Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing but TREASON is NOT.

Who got them in to begin with? I think the mere presence of protesters in and of itself was enough for the Democrats, even when it fell on their shoulder to have them ousted.

I also think the broken mic was a dirty trick. Two Democrats got to talk, then two Republicans and then the broken mic gave the Leftist Media a chance to comment while we were forced to wait for a working mic to finally be brought out.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) called Crocker and Petraeus “two of our nation’s most capable public servants.”

How a report about Lantos could be limited this, is beyond me. His opening remarks to Petraeus, Crocker showed no respect not respect at all, and were completely despicable.

When it comes to Lantos and other Democrats, I am reminded that if Osama Bin Laden himself were present, he couldn't show more disrespect to these two men.

Lantos speaks from a position of honor, and continues to show disrepect for the office he holds, to the district he represents, and the Nation that accepted him as it's own.

Ike Skelton must be getting quite old. My father supported him, and he’s been dead 27 years.
