Mrs. Trooprally called me this evening to tell me that she and her husband, as well as Concretebob, saw damage along almost the entire length of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. They found this damage this morning, when they walked through the area before participating in the September 11th Freedom Walk.
Concretebob was told by a National Park Service employee that the damage was done on Friday night. There was no police report taken or written about the vandalism, apparently. And the damage was still very much there today.
Here are a few of the photos that Mrs. Trooprally took this morning...
This first one is not so noticeable, but as they walked into the center, it got worse.
It looks like the person who did this walked along The Wall with some type of container, perhaps hidden at their side so that they could squirt the oily substance without being caught in the act.
The names along the lower part of The Wall appear to have taken the brunt of the damage.
Because of the reflective nature of The Wall, Mrs. Trooprally had a tough time capturing the extent of the damage. Mr. Trooprally said that the oily substance has discolored the shiny stone, but that it has been absorbed into the more porous area where the names are etched into The Wall.
Kate Smith rocks!! Sounds fair to me! :-)
Here's another recent incident at the wall.
Very L O U D military music!!!
Lots of Sousa Marches! :D
Intent and motive in those cases. Not in this one, when so few facts are known. In how many of those cases were memorials vandalized at ankle height in the middle of the night while no one was watching? Seems like a weird way to make a statement.
No. Even if not intentional, the site was desecrated.
They better put cameras on the wall - that should keep it from happening again.
The Left, who espouses love for all things, yet acts with the most vile of hatred, is the embodiment of EVIL. For it is THEY who live to create in real life, that which they claim to fear.
The persons who did this should have to SERVE on hands and knees those men and women who currently serve this nation, as those men did who died, and whose names they defiled. But I am CERTAIN that our men and women in Uniform would not let such filth clean the bottom of their boots let alone serve them.
Let God sort them out in the end as they deserve.
It’s granite.
I did NOT know that.
REASON #1 to stick with ceramic tile or **gasp** plastics.
Grounds crews, and presumably electricians to maintain the lights, run the full length of the wall on a regular basis. As I mentioned in another post, the grass at the top of the wall in the first picture looks freshly-edged. If that granite is anything like my granite counters, they periodically reapply sealant to protect the stone from the elements.
It is a pretty fast way to go compared to being shredded with a cat (although members of some tribes were reputed to be able to make it last for days), but there would be no second offenders.
This is just infuriating!!! I sure hope they can fix it!!
If you take intent out of the equation, every memorial is desecrated every single day. Wind and rain and smog and bird doo don't discriminate.

Not really, in most of the cases the perps did their most damage down low and out of sight.
Laying low would be the way to go especially as well lit as the wall is at night.
Those that actually were there did not report the strong oder of Gasoline or castor oil(two stroke oil) both of which are used in weed eaters, so I reject your theory as unsubstantiated, also Gasoline would have evaporated but still smelled. My wife can smell gas on me from hours before hand.
I agree. And in this case, it doesn't appear to be bird doo, smog or rain, does it?
I stand corrected. Mostly ankle height, in two cases briefly reaching as high as the knee.
Doesn't appear to be. Your point?
NOT!!!!
