The drawings for the Daimler-Benz Amerikabomber from the spring of
1944 show giant four-engine planes with raised undercarriages
for transporting small bombers.

Well, live and learn. I hadn't heard of this envisioned plan
for the Amerikabomber.
IIRC, in the History Channel's special on exotic Nazi weapons,
the Amerikabomber was planned to drop a very large "dirty bomb"
that would disperse particles coated with highly radioactive material
over the middle of NYC.
Then the pilot/crew would fly out to sea to abandon the plane
(parachute out?) and be picked up by a U-Boat.
The plan was a dangerous mission, but not meant to be a suicide run.

I’d heard of the plane, as one of many. It’s development would be logical. As “suicide” missions, that’s new, though a one way trip to be picked up by submariners off the New York coast in 1944-45 isn’t much different.
