Syria was reportedly calling its reserve forces. The Daily newspaper an-Nahar, in an un-attributed report, said Syria has "called to service part of its reserve force."
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told ministers at the weekly cabinet meeting Sunday that Israel cannot always expose its military operations to the public.
"The security sources and IDF soldiers are demonstrating unusual courage," said Olmert, according to Haaretz. "We naturally cannot always show the public our cards."
The Israeli leader did not specifically refer to Syria's outrage after Israeli jets violated its airspace early Thursday. Olmert's remarks, however, come amid an ongoing Israeli blackout regarding the Syrian charges.
Cabinet ministers and senior Israeli officers refused to comment on or off the record on the incident.

The Yom Yippur war (1973) was a close run thing, Israel only prevailed because of massive air lift of tanks, artillery and ammunition from the U.S. (U.S. logistics were so depleted that the threshold for use of nuclear weapons in response to Soviet aggression in Europe was significantly lowered.) I don’t think the post Cold War U.S. military has that capacity anymore.
While ‘67 seems like a cakewalk by comparison, the Arabs have responded by building concrete reinforced bunkers to shelter their air forces, and otherwise strengthening their air defenses.
A prediction: about 30 minutes prior to start of a preemptive Israeli strike communications into and out of Israel will be completely shut down. All circuits will go dead (opsec). By the time anyone outside notices, Syrian fixed base air defense search radar will go dead, followed by a rapid roll up of other air defense assets. The Syrians will fall back on mobile search radar, without much success. The Israelis will spend a day or so to suppress Syrian air defenses, after which the IAF will rule the skies over Syria.
A second prediction: The Syrians have suicide crews on ice ready to fly commercial passenger jets into a high value target, most likely Tel Aviv. Let’s hope the Israelis have game planned this.

The Yom Kipper war caught the Israeli’s as a sucker punch.
They also were surprised by the combo of the Soviet Air to Air missles and the Sagger anti tank missles. No such combination of strategic surprise and weapons in this one. In a conventional conflict, Israel will clean Syria’s clock.
Make a great photo op though wouldn’t it?

I think I'm saying that, but there can be some nasty surprises and the Arabs aren't as incompetent as they were in 1967.
If Israel occupies territory deep in Syria, they will bring Iranian facilities within "easy reach" of the IAF. This whole rationale for a war with Syria could be to occupy airbases in eastern Syria.

You cannot think of any more useless way to spend a year and a half of your life: you have to sit inside a dead piece of junk that is supposed to detect enemy's airlines, but you cannot turn it on because if you do, it would be blown away, with you in it of course.
The biggest fear was that one asshole up in the upper command, might actually take the risk and order them to turn the radars on one of those days. Every one there knew what would happen then; they code named it: The Suicide Order.
