The popular all-American comic-book military man and action figure dating back to the 1940s is undergoing a significant transformation for the Paramount Pictures-distributed "G.I. Joe" film, which begins production in February and is scheduled for release in summer 2009.
No longer will G.I. Joe be a U.S. Special Forces soldier, the "Real American Hero" who, in his glory days, single-handedly won World War II.
In the politically correct new millennium, G.I. Joe bears no resemblance to the original.
Paramount has confirmed that in the movie, the name G.I. Joe will become an acronym for "Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity" an international, coed task force charged with defeating bad guys. It will no longer stand for government issued, as in issued by the American government.
The studio won't elaborate, saying filming hasn't begun and details are still in the works, but the behind-the-scenes rumblings are that the producers have decided to change the nature of G.I. Joe in order to appeal to a wider, more international audience.
The word is that in the current political climate, they're afraid that a heroic U.S. soldier won't fly.

Oh man. I’m laughing so hard. I can hardly type.
Yeah, that was my reaction as well.
Where do ya’ll FIND these photos? LOL—
Why....
“Cobra Commander” will be a polluting white/Jewish Republican Industrialist from Texas, OF COURSE!!
And his “minions” will all ride in big pickup trucks with Confederate flags on them!
GET WITH THE HOLLYWOOD PROGRAM, WILL YA!
“Say, Joe, that’s quite the kung-fu grip you’ve got there!”
She earned her assignment. She didn’t de-ball anyone. If that’s the way you feel, it’s your problem.
There sure are a lot of people in Hollywood who are ashamed of being Americans.
Gotta admit that I'm ashamed they are, too.
Sounds vaguely familiar.
She was selected - period - no other information is available (that, in itself, is information of a revealing nature). Your emotional investment with the heroine is right in line with the intended outcomes.
You’ve earned your Soma tablet for the day, Comrade!
I’m not the one who’s emotionally invested. I merely accept the facts. You, on the other hand, are emotionally invested in a fantasy of your own making. Why is it so important to you to strip her of her qualifications? Do you think that would bring back whatever you think her success took from you?
I loved the show and toys as a child. If they change anything, I will not see it.
RE: Cobra Commander. No doubt it will be Kevin Spacey. Jack Black would be an interesting choice, though.
We’ve been over this one before. The simple fact is that she was selected - period. The departure from 500 years tradition and qualification is without explanation. As I’ve said numerous times, it is a political play and nothing else.
The shrill emotions you display, however, ignore these basic facts and usually run to standard PC boilerplate like uninformed accusations, blanket statements and the usual personal invective of the left and the clueless.
Yes, you've said it numerous times, while refusing to disclose what you base that emotional reaction on. It runs contrary to the facts.
Nothing belongs to America anymore. Just ask the Mexican truckers and the President of Mexico.
Well, if you actually read my posts instead of making your silly accusations you might have to confront some of the more difficult, factual, materials entailed in this story.
Facts:
1. Qualifications: NCO with 22 years service
Comment: There are thousands that meet this criteria. The idea that this is the sole criteria is ludicrous. There is a lot more to this story than the press is willing to divulge.
2. Selection Process: Unknown.
Comment: The fact that we aren’t made privy to the process is significant.
3. There is dissent among existing office holders.
Comment: This fact is marginalized and no coverage of the disagreement is included in the article. I suspect more than two feel this way, but two willing to go on record is telling.
4. No combat arms background.
Comment: A decision has been made to eliminate the core purpose of the Beefeater’s function. Though it is largely symbolic today, this radical departure from tradition is concrete and definitive. It is, as I have stated many times, political.
5. Media coverage - AP, BBC, Reuters. All leftist in bias.
Comment: In any other kind of story, FReepers would be all over stories from these agencies. Why? Is leftist bias not present or are certain readers biased in favor to the story’s subject?
Them’s the facts, Ma’am, read ‘em and weep. There is simply no room to accept this appointment as straightforward and above board - unless, of course, that is the hidden bias of the reader and that’d be you.
If it makes you feel any better, you can call me names now.
Oh, quit yer whinin’! If you want to be a Beefeater, go apply. Stop whimpering about a woman being the most qualified applicant.
DANM YOU HOLLYWOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DANM YOU ALL TO HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(sorry my Heston moment but seriously this proves that Hollywood are a bunch of cowards there loss, not mine.)
DANM=DAMN sorry
