Thi difference here is that men who do NOT abuse children will overwhelmingly, unfailingly and unequivocally condemn ANYONE who abuses children.

Don’t get me wrong...I despise the dirtbags who are abusing their own kids - male or female.

I’m afraid of guys who would steal a child out of her own bed -rape her and kill her- like the murderers of Polly Klaas and Jessica Lunford.
I’m afraid of the guys who would steal a 5 yr. old from her front lawn in the daylight - like the guy who killed Samantha Runion.
These are the types of crimes parents are worried will happen to their children....men like Michael Devlin who kidnapped and brainwashed Sean Hornbeck, and yes - even the local priest who introduced young men to booze, porn, and sadly - sex (yes -I’m catholic, and yes- I know most priests do not do this)
The op article was addressing the fear parents have and why they are telling their kids to approach women instead of men when they need help.
I understand many scumbag women abuse their children. Many scumbag women seduce 13 yr. old boys.
But we don’t see many women kidnapping, raping, and murdering children.

I don’t send my kids alone on flights, but if I did, I would feel more comfortable if they traveled with a woman.
There have been times I wouldn’t send my daughter to friends’ homes overnight if I knew there were older boys present (for ex: one friend’s older brother had a reputation as a creep)
Because of the scandal of the Church - it is standard policy for the priests to always have another adult with them when there are activities involving children.
This protects the kids, but it also protects the priests from possible false accusations.
I was in a Best Products store in Norfolk, VA maybe 25 years ago when a little girl, maybe five came up to me and said she was lost. I took her by the hand and led her to the checkout girl and told her the little girl had told me she was lost.
No problem and they found her Mother soon, but it struck me just after I had turned her over that if anyone saw me leading her by the hand they could easily have gotten the wrong impression.
I guess we have to be safe but I also think many people are unjustly accused.

Your are referring to different types of crimes and acting like parents are equally afraid of both types of criminals.
That isn’t true.
While I despise the women you refer to that would beat and kill their children - I am not afraid of them. I don’t think they are going to abduct my child, rape them, or kill them.

Start publicly crucifying child molesters and grown men will be able to interact with them again without everyone being suspicious. Why - because the rate of deviant behavior would plummet.
This crime is more complex than many though. IMO you would need to also execute porn producers and others who push sexual obsession. Not a popular idea with libertarians though - they think "consenting adults" can do anything they want and there won't be any bleed through into society.

Well...certainly the opportunity is higher for mothers to abuse children more than fathers because when parents break up, the kids usually go to the kids.
So I don’t find that surprising.
But this isn’t the type of crime that makes people afraid for the safety of THEIR OWN children.

The stats are compelling—30 to 40 percent of the abuse is perpetrated by a family member, and 50 percent is perpetrated by a close family acquaintance. Only 10 percent is perpetrated by a stranger. Does this mean then that children are safer with a stranger than with a member of their own family or a trusted family friend? Yet the impact we read here is that men are afraid to reach out and assist children who are strangers.
