Arnold won’t sign it... This is business-as-usual in California.

But as soon as CA has another Dem governor, which of course some day in the near future they will, it’s a done deal.

Well Fred, when the national RP leadership abandons a state, all sorts of things can happen. In California they are.

That’s right. And when it does become law, other states will be emboldened to do the same thing.

But....The Calif. Supreme Court is going to rule on same-sex marriage in the next year. If they rule for it, then it’s done.

If the court rules against it, the court will also have to rule on whether the people voting on Prop. 22 was constitutional. If it was, then the people would have to vote on marriage again in Calif. Then it’s possible the people of Calif. will vote for it.

Otherwise, yes, the next time Calif. has a Dem. governor to go with the Dem. legislature, they will pass the same sex marriage law.

Mz. Kuehl is like a festering boil. If you don’t lance it, you just get one that gets bigger and won’t go away. As much as Arnold would love to sign this one, he can’t. The people of California voted an initiative that said marriage is one man and one women. Get over yourself, Sheila.

It’s a constitution. I’m sorry, I don’t think that it should be used for such a minor thing. There can’t be gay marriage, as marriage is between a man and a woman.

If this ever gets signed, how does Fred plan on keeping the federal gov’t out of it? What about federal taxes and benefits?

Okay, I read his actually statement and it is not entire bad. I still do not see how the state can call it marriage and you can keep it from becoming a federal issue. Great that he would address the full faith and credit clause. That's big. And the judges both state and federal. Even bigger. But what about the homosexual "married couple" and their federal taxes, social security, etc. If they move from Massachusetts to Tennessee in say, August, how do they file their taxes? How is it considered for social security? Do we consider them divorced as of the date of their move? It takes awhile before you are considered a resident of your new state. So at first are you married and then when an official resident, are you divorced?

What about the military? Do we then have to accept homosexual married couples on military bases? The potential conflicts in this proposal are enormous. I can't help but think it will end with a total loss on our side. The only potential way to do it is to keep the marriage as one man, one woman for federal purposes. All the states to offer marriage by another name so that it stays within the states and doesn't become a federal issue. Anything short of that says that Fred has changed his mind about the federal DOMA.

Oh really, where has he been? The legislators prevented MA voters from stopping it. Wonder what he says now.
