The executive director of the state Democratic Party took a leave of absence Thursday after he was arrested on a count of third-offense DWI.

John Daniel “Danny” Ford, 31, was arrested Thursday by city police, Parish Prison booking documents said.

Besides being suspected of driving while intoxicated, Ford was cited for driving over the median, failure to signal and reckless operation of a vehicle, booking documents said.

Ford, 143 Cloud Drive, is out of jail on a $20,000 bond, documents show.

Ford will step down temporarily from the Democratic Party’s top administrative job at a time when the fall election season is shifting into high gear, state party Chairman Chris Whittington said. Ford will “take a leave of absence as long as he needs to work on his problem and these issues,” he said Thursday night.

“We don’t want it to distract from anybody or anything this election,” Whittington said. He said Ford agrees with that.

In a news release, Ford said he would use the time away from the party job “to address a personal issue of my receiving a DWI citation and do not want anything to get in the way of my success in this matter … this issue which needs my full attention.” Ford has been executive director of the party since spring 2006.

Yeah, but he wasn’t tapping his toes...

Democrats are to be forgiven for anything. This’ll die a quick death.

MADD won’t even issue a press release.

Yeah, well, it’s not like he had 90K in cash in his freezer, so what’s the big deal?

How did this schmuck come up with $20,000 bond? Sounds like he will be spending at least some time in jail. Hope he gives up the booze before he kills himself or worse someone else.

For a $20K bond you only need $2k to get out of jail.

He will announce tomorrow his resignation as Democratic Executive. He will then be appointed head of Louisiana Motor Vehicles Division.
