NOW that Fred Thompson has officially entered the contest for the Republican presidential nomination, the Tall Drink of Water from Tennessee has to knock Rudy Giuliani out of the top spot in the national polls if he is to have a chance of prevailing in the GOP primaries.
It's simple logic. Thompson wrote off the early primary state of New Hampshire this week by refusing to attend the GOP debate there on Wednesday night in favor of a Jay Leno booking. And he doesn't seem to be making an effort in the early caucus state of Iowa.
He's effectively ceded those two to Mitt Romney,

So what about Fred Thompson?
Well said, I expect Thompson’s support to surge in those places. Romney seems to have a core support level of 10%, but above that, I suspect the support is very soft. All of the other candidates have votors who can be peeled off as well. When push comes to shove, I expect Thompson to win or to come in second in the early contests (probably 2nd in NH, 1st or 2nd in Iowa, 1st in SC)
Yep. And there's another debate coming up in NH, too.
Isn't it amazing when a grownup such as Podhoretz can't be objective.
