Google Gap (are we behind?)

In August 2006, just a few months in advance of the midterm elections, 26 million citizens were logging on to the Internet to get information about the campaigns, according to a survey by the Pew Internet and American Life Project. ) That amounts to 13 percent of all adults in the country using the Internet as a tool to make informed political decisions....

And notably, since the inception of Google bombing seven years ago, political Google bombs have been predominantly a tactic of the Left. While Google bombing isn’t exclusive to Democratic partisans (in 2004 a Republican blogger instigated a successful Google bomb for John Kerry and “waffles”), the liberal blogosphere is far more actively trying to Google bomb Republican candidates.

Childish pranks don’t win elections.

I'm not so sure about that, but the effect is probably minimal. That said, your statement explains WHY these things usually come from the left, most Liberals are immature and childish, when you get right down to it.

At one point Google said that they would implement code to prevent google bombing. I guess in the end they appreciate helping their comrades on the Left.

I think we are more behind on slightly more effective things like catching gaffes and throwing them on You Tube with suggestive catch phrases. Macca anyone?

It’s the technique of manipuating the page rank given to webpages on certain Google searches by conspiring to post identical links from lots of websites. Read the rest of the article.

Whistling past the graveyard are we?

Google is used for RESEARCH. Posting apparent “legitimate”, yet negative results for Republicans is effective “media” manipulation.

Search engine ranking strategies are NOT CHILDISH. They are done by businesses all the time.

I agree. I think we need to work on:

Supporting/organizing local activism.
Correcting the lies the Left puts in Wikipedia.
Search engine strategies.
Youtube videos.
Theatrical Documentaries .

HAve you noticed that if you google almost any business these days, you almost NEVER get the business’s website near the top of your listing.

“Childish pranks don’t win elections.”

Wanna bet?

And when you stop to think about it, the effects of Google bombing are pretty much the same as the LSM deciding to focus on anything negative about a Republicans and hide or not report any negative news about a Democrat.

My dream Google Bomb would be associating a word I can’t use here and Chris Bowers.

The effect is “minimal” but it does serve as unfunded propaganda and you will still see the occassional post/email saying “Quick, go to google, search for “miserable failure” and click “I’m feeling lucky”).

It used to go to the White House’s GW Bush page. Now it goes to Wikipedia’s article on google bombing.

Michael Moore used to be the number 2 or 3 match in a regular google search with that term.

This article hints at Google’s attempt to “END” Google bombs:
Google Kills Bush’s Miserable Failure Search & Other Google Bombs

“Let’s get everyone to link to http://www.whitehouse.gov/president/gwbbio.html with the words “Miserable Failure” Our goal is to make Shrubya the top google ...”

Google Kills Bush’s Miserable Failure Search & Other Google Bombs
After just over two years, Google has finally defused the “Google Bomb” that has returned US President George W. Bush at the top of its results in a search on miserable failure. The move wasn’t a post-State Of The Union Address gift for Bush. Instead, it’s part of an overall algorithm change designed to stop such mass link pranks from working.

The Left does the same thing with Yahoo articles (voting them UP or DOWN depending on whethere they want to highlight or SUPRESS certain news/photos).

And they post some pretty insulting comments on Youtube clips that they politically disagree with.

It is a very childish political movement, one that simply cannot compete in the marketplace of an open exchange of ideas.

Childish pranks don’t win elections.

Democrat operatives slashed the tires on 2 dozen "get out the vote" vans on election day in one town. Is that a "prank"?

It certainly supressed the vote (and the perps were caught, one was Democrat official's son).

First of all that is a red herring.

I just did a search on 5 companies. Everyone of them had the business’s website listed first.

Second, finding examples where it doesn’t work, doesn’t mean that businesses don’t spend time and money on their rankings.

Anyone who builds websites for a living knows that search engine placement is vital. There are books written on the topic.

As we continue to give the LEFT ground on the Internet, youtube, intra-party activism and theatrical documentaries, we will lose the next generation.
