KING5 TV in Seattle is reporting that Fred Thompson has made the announcement during a taping for tonights' "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno.
NBC just ran the clip....
Fred: “That’s one of the things I came here to talk about. I’m running for President of the United States”
Wild applause from the audience!
I may have worked for the Terminator, but does Fred want people to think he’d govern like him?
That should be “It may have worked...” not “I.”

Just take one look at all the other Republicans, this guy is the only one who can beat Hillary Clinton, Well except for Bill Clinton infidelity. Thats an 800 pound gorilla yet to be heard from.
Personally, I’m glad he’s in it. Like a lot of my fellow Freepers (RP supporters not included) the current crop of GOP candidates leave me wanting. They each have their own good qualities, but there is no complete package. I believe that Fred is that candidate and he has my vote until he loses it.

I don’t see Fred doing something just because it works for someone else.
He’s his own kind of man. Alot of folks are complaining that he fired some of his campaign staff.
In my mind, that tells me he’s going on his own instincts and less on the political spinners.
Bottom line, I’ve read some of his essays, and short of Newt, he has the best understanding of the federal system. And if there is a man who can tell Putin to pull his shorts up and have Putin listen to him, it’s Fred.
I like Fred, and Leno is a great place to announce (I wonder what Johnny Carson would have thought of all this!)
That said, I wish he hadn’t skipped the debate tonight.

Because more people who are wondering who Fred Thompson is will watch Leno tonight. People watching Fox are already voting Republican.
Good move on Thompsons part. There will be 20 more Republican debates before the primaries.
