ANNAPOLIS After eleven days of presidential straw poll ballots cast at the Maryland Republican Partys State Fair booth, Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) was announced last night as the winner.
The Maryland Republican Partys first-ever presidential straw poll at the State Fair resulted in nearly 1,000 Marylanders casting a vote for their favorite Republican candidate for president.

You are incorrect on Paul being antiwar! He simply wants Congress to grow a pair and DECLARE war. You know, provide strong support for the Commander in Chief.
some of us with a better grasp of economics sees a much more significant risk to our nation.
For nearly a 100 years we have been losing ground ot the liberals. We can’t continue on with a bloated domestic policy and a costly foreign policy.
Somethings got to give - and I don’t want it to be the dollar.
I find it cowardly to ignore the facts and think we can carry on as usual.
He's antiwar. You just don't want to believe the truth.
Sure. I’d vote for him against Hillary and so would most Freepers.
But that would still put him in single digits.
1) Bosnia/Serbia was not a threat to the US and is a classic example of "police action" by our civilian's (Klinton) use of the military
2) State sponsored terrorists states in the Middle East ARE a direct threat to the US and the world
Nobody has a more negative score.
Anybody that runs against Hillary will start off with 30%.
Polls are consistently showing that 45% of the voters would never consider Hillary. These results suggest that 1/3 of the people who had decided to vote for anyone but Hillary reconsidered when the anyone was Ron Paul and decided to vote FOR Hillary.
I think the Republicans can find a little stronger candidate than Ron Paul.
President Reagan was never a loon, nor was he a nasty, hateful crank.
Well no one is ever happy with war, you are correct in that. However, the US attacking Iraq has done nothing to make us safer, and instead has stirred up much anger against us in that part of the world.
True, Iraq had been firing on US warplanes over its territory that were patroling the “no fly zone”, but all we were doing there was enforcing UN resolutions for the most part.
Interferring with the internal politics of other countries will always make enemies with some group. That is one of the primary reasons behind 911. They may be religious nut jobs, but having US troops stationed in what they consider “holy land” certainly ticks off a bunch of people. Unless we figure out the root causes of what we are fighting, we are doomed to failure.
Make up your mind, is it sloganeering, or "textbook propaganda"?
Can they find a stronger defender of the Constitution than Paul? I doubt it!
Note that the article compared the Republican boot to that of the Democrats, which was virtually empty. Might I suggest...?
Sloganeering is a textbook propaganda ploy. In fact, you can probabably find examples of all of the classic textbook techniques just on this thread.
Do goats & camels and hairy Iranian women fit into this anywhere? An inquiring mind wants to know.
Oops...maybe the wrong thread. Then again, maybe not?
Yes, but with less sanity.
Despite his very low name recognition? Heck Hillary's negatives are in the high 40s. Would you not expect an unnamed generic Republican to do just as well against her?
“...of Ronald Reagan, who saw the wisdom of leaving Beirut and getting out of Middle Eastern political affairs.”
Getting out? Is this the same Reagan that bombed Libya and set up an alliance with Egypt (including frequent military exercises there?)...the same Reagan that vocally supported Israel?
Your Reagan never wooed evangelical groups. Your Reagan never embraced Christian conservative morality. Your Reagan never opposed personal drug use.
Your Reagan is a libertarian fantasy that didn’t exist.
You mean pre-9/11, right?
So that's what attracted you to Reagan?
What happened when we left Lebenon? I hear it is a wonderful place now. Getting better everyday. Just ask your average Israeli. But hey, Paulistinians don't strike me as particular keen on the Jews anyway. Can't be sticking our noses in other places right? I'm sure that once we have a border fence and man some Paulistinians as guards on the shores of the Atlantic and Pacific, we will be fine.
