An Anaheim woman filed a federal lawsuit against the Orange County Sheriff's Department today, claiming her religious rights were violated when deputies forced her to remove her hijab, or head scarf.

Deputies insisted Souhair Khatib, 33, who is Muslim; remove her scarf when she was being booked into a county jail in connection with a probation violation. Islam dictates that women must wear the hijab, which covers a woman's hair and neck, for reasons of modesty.

Khatib was seen by deputies and other men from her mosque without her covering, causing her extreme emotional distress, her lawsuit says.

"For Souhair, to have her head uncovered in public – particularly in the presence of men who are not part of her immediate family – is a serious breach of faith and a deeply humiliating and defiling experience," the suit says.

Khatib, a U.S. citizen who emigrated from Lebanon, along with her husband, Amro Khatib, 32, were in Orange County Superior Court's north courthouse on Nov. 1, 2006, to seek an extension on their community service. The couple had pleaded guilty in June 2006 to a misdemeanor violation of welfare fraud and were sentenced to three years probation and ordered to complete 30 days of community service.

Really?

Yup. Up until the 1970s pretty much all Muslims except Wahhabists agreed that the modesty required in the Koran could be fulfilled by covering your whole body except your hands and your face.

Some believed that your hair had to be covered (kerchief-style headscarf), some didn't.

Then with the rise of radical Islam in the late 1970s, radicals everywhere started insisting that women cover their faces Saudi-style.

That’s what I thought. Do these “journalists” even research before they write?

SEATTLE — An Everett man who helped disguise a 2004 arson as a hate crime was sentenced to three years in prison Thursday.

He also will be required to pay $200,000 restitution for damaging the building that housed the Continental Spices market in south Everett.

Naveed Kahn, 25, testified against the owner of the store, Mizra Akram, 40, who also was found guilty by a judge in February and was sentenced to more than four years behind bars. .....

For me, blowing up innocents and crashing airplanes into buildings is a serious breach of my faith and a deeply humiliating and defiling experience . . . and I haven't even been convicted of welfare fraud. So can I sue the Muzzies?

Hooey, what you’ll get is a bunch of two-ton Tilleys in spandex.

And that would be a SIN!

Jeez, I’m glad I don’t belong to a religion that tells me who can and can’t look at me.

Wouldn't do any good. Men would still look. O.K., they'd ogle.

Would it be a stretch to say that she wants to be treated per Shari'a law? If so, then perhaps she ought to be careful what she wishes for. From the article...

The couple had pleaded guilty in June 2006 to a misdemeanor violation of welfare fraud and were sentenced to three years probation and ordered to complete 30 days of community service.

Chopping her hands off would certainly eliminate the need to look under her hijab.

The law suit only serves to emphasise how sick and deranged the tenets of islam are. It wasn't the sheriff who 'humiliated' the woman, it was her twisted islamic beliefs that caused the 'humiliation'. The real irony here is that Muslims are so easily humiliated and outraged by the slighest inkling of anything un-islamic, they are the kings of Pride and bigotry, which reveals a complete lack of real humility in their nature. There is nothing more dangerous to the fate of humanity than Islam.

It's way past time to allow Muslims into the US, and make them citizens. Americans should not be asked to invite people into the country who want to kill them. Also, we have plenty of people committing welfare fraud without having to import more problems. BTW, how does someone emigrate to the US, get citizenship and get on welfare?? Makes you want to vote against every incumbent in DC regardless of party.
