Another Iraq Photo Op (New York Times Dismisses Surge Success As Photo Op Stunt Alert)
New York Times ^ | 09/05/2007 | New York Times Editorial Board

Iraq is a long way to go for a photo op, but not for President Bush, who is pulling out all the stops to divert public attention from his failed Iraq policies and to keep Congress from demanding that he bring the troops home. As Americans and Iraqis continue to die — and Iraqi politicians refuse to reconcile — Mr. Bush stubbornly refuses to recognize that what both countries need is a responsible exit strategy for the United States, not more photo ops and disingenuous claims of success.

With Congress launching a series of pivotal hearings this week, Mr. Bush’s eight-hour stopover in Iraq on Sunday won him major play in the news media, including photos of smiling American military forces with their commander in chief. But the facts of the visit undermined his claims that his troop escalation is working and deserves more time and more lives to bear fruit.

Mr. Bush’s only destination was an isolated, well-fortified air base in Anbar Province, not Baghdad where his so-called surge was supposed to bring stability and persuade Iraqi politicians that they had more to gain from reconciliation than score-settling. We suppose Mr. Bush could claim one success for his visit: he did manage to get Iraq’s Shiite prime minister, Nuri Kamal al-Maliki, to visit the Sunni-dominated province.

How did the New York Times react to the President's dramatic visit to once violent Anbar province in Iraq? By dismissing it as a photo op stunt and by omitting to mention the fact ALL of Iraq's senior leaders met President Bush, not just Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al Maliki. For the NYT liberals, good news is still no news.

I haven’t seen any pix - did the President hold up any unfired cartridges and claim they were fired bullets?

News organizations have taken the Times’ cue and are repeating the big lie. They have to preempt the news of our successes in the war before the American public is convinced that we don’t have to lose.

They want the dimms to win the House, Senate, and Presidency in ‘08 sooo bad, that they don’t care if they are giving the enemy aid and comfort with these lies!

Unfortunately, the vast number of citizens who will believe and repeat this bull are dumb sheep who will follow the lying pied pipers and will not educate themselves so they won’t be deceived!

It will get worse as we get closer to the election!

Iraq is a long way to go for a photo op, but not for President Bush...

Nevermind that he is going halfway around the world, and it's no father to go by Iraq than it would have been to go the other direction.

...who is pulling out all the stops to divert public attention from his failed Iraq policies...
<>Let me get this straight.  Bush is trying to divert attention from Iraq, but he just led the press core and world attention to it.  Is that about it?

...and to keep Congress from demanding that he bring the troops home.

Well this is one of his policies, I guess some might forgive him for remaining steadfast in the shadow of those fronting for the Terrorists number one demand, we leave Iraq.

As Americans and Iraqis continue to die...

Yes, and why do they continue to die?  The do because the job isn't done.  When the job is done they won't continue to die, and they will come home.

...and Iraqi politicians refuse to reconcile...

I guess the meetings and agreements by the interested parties in Iraq to pull together, doesn't count right?  It doesn't matter that Shiite and Sunis have agreed to work toward a stable government.  What constitutes reconciliation in your book?

Mr. Bush stubbornly refuses to recognize that what both countries need is a responsible exit strategy for the United States, not more photo ops and disingenuous claims of success.

There you go again.  Here is the bottom line.  The terrorists want us out, and you're going to do your damnedest to get us out.  What more could you do in the interest of the terrorists?  Anything?

With Congress launching a series of pivotal hearings this week,

Pivotal hearings...  the left hasn't waited for those hearings, so just how pivotal are they.  The Congressional Democrats have morphed their arguments to whether the rulers in Iraq have met their hurdles.  With about seven of eighteen of the leadership hurdles met, they will call for a pullout.  Big surprise there.  You men and they are on the same page with the terrorists and nothing is going to get you off track.  Never mind that the surge is working.  That doesn't count now.  It's been discounted because it makes your team look like girl scouts going door to door selling cookies nobody wants.  Well, change your product you numbskulls.  Try selling victory in Iraq cookies instead of defeat cookies.  Try pulling for the US instead of some guys holed up in a cave praying to Allah that you'll continue writing this type of tripe until hell freezes over.

Mr. Bush’s eight-hour stopover in Iraq on Sunday won him major play in the news media, including photos of smiling American military forces with their commander in chief. But the facts of the visit undermined his claims that his troop escalation is working and deserves more time and more lives to bear fruit.

No it did not undermine his claims.  Iraq is a war zone.  Use the head God, oops sorry about that, gave you.
Mr. Bush’s only destination was an isolated, well-fortified air base in Anbar Province, not Baghdad where his so-called surge was supposed to bring stability and persuade Iraqi politicians that they had more to gain from reconciliation than score-settling.

This is nothing more than blatant disinformation.  If Bush would have flown into Baghdad, the Taliban's (NYT) editorial crew would have said he couldn't go anywhere but the capital.  If he goes to Anbar, it's an isolated destination.  NO, it's a war zone d--kheads.  You take every precaution to surpise and confuse those who would do you harm.  The leadership of Iraq was there.  No chances were taken.  Sorry this diappoints you so much, that the Iraqi leadership and Bush didn't get attacked, but you'll just have to bear up under the weight of it.

We suppose Mr. Bush could claim one success for his visit: he did manage to get Iraq’s Shiite prime minister, Nuri Kamal al-Maliki, to visit the Sunni-dominated province.

What a desparate attempt to cast a paul over this event.   All the top Iraqi leadership attended.  In light of this you jumped on every single you could.  In doing so you made yoursleves look petty and weak.  You folks, not Bush, are the ones who are melting down.  You haven't met 1 of 35 demands an enlightened populace would demand.  Why don't you folks give up.  Oh yes, the Taliban needs you.  I momentarily fogot.

This was written by the NYT Editorial Board.  It actually took a team of people to create this sophomoric diatribe.  Evidently a majority of them thought it was quite eloquent.

Simply amazing.

What an incredibly slimy, snotty, resentful editorial.

They're just mad because the surge is working and there's nothing they can do about it.

Greaseballs.

As you can see it is a month old, I knew Beck visited with the President, but did not know it was in transcript form.

I was looking for todays show with James Carafano, Heritage Foundation — they were talking about Iraq, Iran Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, — I really lucked out getting the two interviews.

President Bush, who is pulling out all the stops to divert public attention from his failed Iraq policies and to keep Congress from demanding that he bring the troops home.

*snort* From what I can tell, the only 'failed policy' is the 'anti-war' one of the Congressional Democrats. Because of that, they have no power to tell the President to do ANYTHING.

Good. Let them taste the pain they so happily caused us.

not even fit to line a birdcage. Such uttr drivel. We’re winning and they can’t stand it. They are blinded by their collective hate for our President, so much so that they subvert all good news, pump their own agenda and threaten national security with their routine leaks of information. A pox on the house of Times, may she continue in her inevitable decline into irrelevancy.

Some of the Ron Paul Cult have personally attacked me here on FR just because of my involvement in OIF.

I consider it a badge of honor. ;-)

Nothing better describes the left as does this quote from PJ O'Rourke:

"At the core of liberalism is the spoiled child - miserable, as all spoiled children are, unsatisfied, demanding, ill-disciplined, despotic and useless. Liberalism is a philosphy of sniveling brats." -- P.J. O'Rourke

The NYT is much happier supporting the expansion of tyranny and terror than taking a chance it could write something that might help a Republican.
