Romney to Air Ad in South Carolina
Associated Press ^ | September 4, 2007 | JIM KUHNHENN

WASHINGTON -- Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will renew an advertising push in South Carolina on Wednesday, expanding a media campaign that lately has been focused on Iowa and New Hampshire.

The former Massachusetts governor's campaign will shift an ad to South Carolina that aired in Iowa and New Hampshire last week. It showed Romney jogging and praised him for meeting "extraordinary challenges."

The South Carolina ad will run in major markets in South Carolina, including Greenville, Charleston, Columbia and Myrtle Beach. It is scheduled to run for six days and costs more than $200,000, according to information compiled by another presidential campaign.

Romney has been running radio ads in the state and conducted a television ad campaign in the state earlier this year, mainly in March and April.

Romney has spent more than $6 million in advertising, much of it in Iowa and New Hampshire. His poll numbers in both states have risen as the public became more familiar with him.

South Carolina presents another front for Romney, who has been making a special appeal to the social conservatives who are the core bloc of GOP primary voters. South Carolina Republicans have scheduled their primary for Jan. 19.

It is apparent in many of the early primaries that Romney has either intrinsic advantages (NH, Maine, Michigan), or has developed them through his effort (Iowa). It looks like Romney wants to increase the respectability of his showing in South Carolina, so as to maintain momentum and demonstrate his competitiveness even in the South. This should be helpful 10 days later in Florida, and subsequently on Mega Tuesday.

Romney does not have a day job (doesn’t need one either) and he has got money coming out of his wazoo. The number of busses he charted in Iowa goes a long way toward explaining his success. His family is old, old politics. Not that political success can sometimes lead to business success (like it seems to have, for Al Gore).

Maybe the liberal, liberal in its true sense, in me just dislkes political dynasties (present and past Presidents included)

Romney, still, is not among the most objectionable of the GOP candidates.

Or perhaps the good conservative people of Free Republic could do without another misguided misanthrope such as yourself.

Sorry, this Tennesseean is a Romney supporter. Expect our ranks to grow. Perhaps more outside the south, but that’s perfectly okay with me. :)

And of course, you’re more than welcome to post. But your failure to contribute anything to the conversation is thus noted.

I personally think Romney can pull of a good second place and depending on how Thompson runs his campaign, perhaps (though less likely) a victory in South Carolina. Time will tell. His numbers certainly have gone up as of late.

So? And this is news..? He’s been airing ads there since the beginning of summer..hasn’t gotten him much poll-wise though!! I doubt it EVER will..

He needs to be airing the ads in Florida. He may or may not have success in South Carolina regardless of his advertising, but he must do well in Florida if he has a chance of winning. I’d still prefer Duncan Hunter, but if I must pick a “top-tier” candidate, Mr. Romney is my favorite.

Southerners are waiting to see if Fred has anything before they commit to Mitt. Once they see Fred crash and burn, they will come around, especially after Iowa and New Hampshire. The front porch rocking chair is an old stereotype of the South. Southerners will see thats what they are buying with Fred and will reject it soundly in favor of gasp! a Yankee.

Hmmmm....the lead in Iowa and New Hampshire and more than tripling his standings in South Carolina. I thought those were important early primary states, but they could also be the most sought after quarters in the nation. You know, the new ones with the cool backgrounds from different states?

If that’s nothing, show me something!! Or is that Missouri? Darn arch keeps getting me confused.

There. I added some white noise of my own. Maybe Romney will just go away now. :)

If Larry Craig was one of his campaign chairs in Idaho, I’m a guessing Goober is one of his campaign chairs in South Carolina. Oh my bad, I forgot, Goober and McCain go way back and are an old item so to speak.

When Slick Mitty throws money out of helicopters over a state when there is no ad competition, his numbers go up.

Think that will work against Hillary?

Not so far back in SC as do Thompson and McCain.

Dream on. If Fred does crash and burn, I will still refuse to back either of the two northeastern liberal gun grabbing RINOs and so will many others. While I will never vote for a DemonRAT, neither will I vote for a RINO. But I'd rather see Hillary or Hussein in the White House over a RINO because I'd rather be pissed off at the Rats when my guns are outlawed. So don't expect many of us to come running to Rudy or Mitt if they're the eventual nominee.

What good is it to possibly allow the Democrats to control everything important from the Presidency on down and then be forced to see the whole U.S. become a socialistic country because of this?

I don't see any difference between RINOs and DemocRATS other than DemocRATS are at least honest about their intentions.

A socialistic U.S. will kill both the Republican Party and U.S. conservatism at the same time! The Democrats will pass legislation that forever allows amnesty for illegal immigrants “to the max” as well as forever allows illegals to register to vote throughout the U.S., and both the Republican Party and conservatives won’t be able to match such high numbers of illegals voting for “far leftist” politicians at every political level throughout the U.S.!

I posted this elsewhere, but it probably belongs here.

Conservatives are cowards. Ever notice how liberals and Mohammedans always demand 100% of what they want? How they never stop pushing their causes with their time and money? How, if they are offered less than 100% of what they want they refuse to compromise? How, if they cannot get that through the ballot box, they find alternative methods of pushing 100% of that agenda?

Now look at conservatives. Wandering around with their heads hung in shame, willing to throw platform after platform overboard just to try and get 25% of what they want. “No, vote for Mitt, he can win Michigan.” “No, vote for Fred, people know him from Law and Order.” “No, the country is really liberal, vote for Rudy. At least he’ll pretend to cut taxes.”

It’s pathetic, really.

Romney sure is objectionable to me, after living next door to Massachusetts and watching him help wreck them.
