A live UK music venue today dodged a fine after members of the Rolling Stones lit up cigarettes on stage in defiance of the smoking ban.
The Stones are rounding off their two-year Bigger Bang world tour with a trio of dates at London's O2 Arena.
On the first date, officials had to tell the band to stub out their cigarettes after the guitarists, Keith Richards and Ron Wood, performed while smoking.

The Stones went from not being able to sing "Let's Spend the Night Together" on the Ed Sullivan Show in the 1960s because of objectionable lyrics; however, smoking was commonplace. Now, the Stones can't smoke on stage while singing "Let's Spend the Night Together" to packed audiences.
By the way, this article is a few days old and I read that Keith Richards ate a cigarette on stage as a form of protest.
It’s a slippery slope. Start out with grass and it leads inevitably to tobacco.
Pathetic.
The Stones will never become The Sex pistols.
good observation!
I feel safer now.
And I sure will be able to sleep better at night.
Maybe the guy just wanted a balloon. :-)
I think he was trying to bum a smoke. Keith hates that!
Did you ever see/hear Keith’s description of how he came up with the riff to “Satisfaction”? I think it was during a VH-1 interview when he explained it. Basically, he said he was sleeping one night and it popped into his mind. Immediately, he awoke, got a recorder and hummed about 30 seconds onto a 45-minute cassette, went back to sleep and when he awoke the next morning he got 44 minutes and 30 seconds of snoring. :-)
