The Sicilian Mafia, the Cosa Nostra, is facing a revolt by local businessmen who refuse to pay protection money.
Until now almost every business in the Sicilian capital, Palermo, has paid off the Mafia or faced retribution.

Reminds me of our oppressiing tax system.
To a certain extent, I can understand the Cosa Nostra and be willing to see things from their perspective, because being European, to a large degree, means being humble in the face of eternity.
On the other hand, I know the Cosa Nostra, in this ongoing battle, will be crushed and they will be crushed thoroughly.
Europe is growing stronger.
I’d chalk this up to the declining birth rate in Sicily, there simply aren’t enough sons around to maintain the mafia muscle.
- Another aspect is that of clever Sicilian sons realizing there just might be a respectable future for them in Italian business life after all.
For instance, a major international corporation like The Barilla Group has (successfully) invested heavily in the South of Italy. Wine production and agriculture flourishes. So does tourism. I predict this development to continue.
The true Europe is expanding its borders.
