DALLAS (AP) - A Dallas musician who played with Edie Brickell & New Bohemians was shot to death early this morning after trying to kick in the door of his girlfriend's neighbor.
34-year-old Jeffrey Carter Albrecht died at the scene.
Police say the neighbor fired a shot through the door around 4 a.m. The neighbor believed a burglar was trying to break in. The case is under investigation and no arrests have been made.
Albrecht, who went by his middle name, had been a keyboard player for the New Bohemians since 1999. He also played keyboard and guitar and sang for the Dallas rock band Sorta.
Published and broadcast reports quoted police saying that Albrecht beat up his girlfriend and then tried to kick down the neighbor's door in a drunken rage. The couple had no history of domestic violence, but police say the girlfriend had bruises on her face. She did not suffer serious injury.
Albrecht played with Brickell's husband, Paul Simon, when he did a show in Dallas. He also played with Texas musician Charlie Sexton, a renowned guitarist.
Don’t mess with Texans.
There, fixed it.
I know what I know if you know what I mean.
Prayers for this misguided soul.
Does this rise to the level of a Darwin award nomination?
Still, a major tragedy for his family... One moment's bad judgment and your life's over.
The most glaring thing about this article is that the word “ALCOHOL” doesn’t appear in it.
I say 99% chance that it belongs in the first sentence.... No, 100%.
Toolate ... the time to be guided is while here, alive ... once dead ... judgement.
Prayers for all left remaining, however.
Ooops... “DRUNKEN RAGE” is there after all....
From another article on the shooting:
**”A Dallas homeowner shot and killed what he thought was an intruder early this morning, but the victim turned out to be, musician Carter Albrecht, the boyfriend of a neighbor.”**
Musicians and boyfriends of neighbors can’t be intruders?
This was on the local news here.
The neighbor’s going to be in trouble - he fired through the door without positively IDing the target. Or so his first story went.
I’ve heard three or four different stories - seems the guy’s been changing his tale.
Local news has been carrying three or four different stories on how the shooting went down - he may still face charges for reckless discharge, etc - or his story (or stories) may not end up being accepted by the DA.
This story isn’t as cleancut as it should have been.
Agreed.
Harsh, but true.
Alright. Look, it's sad that a troubled substance-abusing young musician has been killed, I agree. However, the man was evidently beating his girlfriend in a drunken rage and decided to gain illegal and violent entry into the house of someone who wasn't up until that point involved.
What would the music hippies say if Albrecht would have broken through the door of an unarmed neighbor and murdered them in a confrontation?: "Gosh, I just can't believe that Carter Albrecht is charged with killing a man. This is just a sad day for music."? They evidently believe that's actually preferable to the aggressor being taken down instead!
See, if you're the type of person who strums a musical instrument on stage and brings warmth and celebration to adoring fans, you obviously aren't at fault if you batter a woman and then tries to commit a violent break-in. That goes double if you get shot in the face.
I will never understand liberals.
Lastly, I want to say that Edie Brickell and New Bohemians SUCKED.
So true. Sad that so many believe one's situation can be changed after he/she has died.
The threat isn’t very high while the door remains closed.
The bottom line, you should know what you’re shooting at if at all possible. It could be your own kid trying to get in.
Geez, it takes me about two hours to wake up and function. I can't imagine being awakened at 4AM by my spouse screaming that someone's breaking in the door, and thinking that my family might be harmed..My sympathies are not with the raging dead drunken musician.
