Every time John Remore steps up to his workstation to form a piece of sheet metal, he brings an intangible asset to the job: 42 years of experience, dating to lessons from his father.

Question - What is the difference between a liberal and a puppy?
Answer - A puppy stops whining after it grows up.
I’m also starting to think it’s better not to make too much money — makes you the lowest hanging fruit when it comes to cutting budget, and that is the primary reason they tend to let the old timers go.
heheheheh
Squantos,
I wasn’t directing my comments to you, I was giving Cogadh na Sith, who seems miserable in his job, a pep talk. You were in on the conversation, so I included you.
By some strange happenstance, and in spite of my being a truck driver most of my life, most of my friends are engineers. One of them is forty years old and doing great with a defense subcontractor. He has had no problem rising through the ranks. Perhaps Cogadh na Sith is working for the wrong company, or in the wrong geographical area. I do know that I never hear my friends complaining about their jobs.
I have never cut anybody, because they were too old, or made too much money.
Never.
Quite the opposite - we protect their jobs, as best we can.
Ask him if there are other engineers younger than him, ask him how many people he is in charge of.
You misunderstand me--I make good money, I've gotten promotions, but I look at the guys in charge of me and I realized that no matter how hard and well I work, I'll never be one of those guys--they aren't going to retire and I have no one to be in charge of!
You know what I get to do come April? I get to write a check to the IRS for $40,000.00
You know why? Because my wife took a job as a teacher.
Oh, we claim no deductions, and have maximum witholding, but...
You ever seen $40,000.00?
You can buy a house for less. Atlas is about to shrug, big time.
>Youll see the slackers always take of on Mondays or Fridays.....Id warn them one time.<
Wrong, I owned a cattle ranch at the same time I was a lineman for the telephone company. I used part of my vacation during calving season with a month of Mondays and Fridays. I had to drive 200 miles to get to that ranch. Then I had another ranch in Texas operated by a manager.
The guys I worked with knew I had an interest in cattle but never knew I owned ranches.
You need to call a financial advisor/CPA and change your investments around. Get some professional advice and straighten that mess up pronto.
You can pay it in installments, especially if you have the money--based on the rules in place, the IRS cannot refuse an offer in good faith to pay off a tax debt. You can make more interest on the money than they can charge you.... but it is marginal.
You know why? Because my wife took a job as a teacher.
Yeah, you have to withold extra to make up for her income. I'm sure her job actually cost the family money....
You can buy a house for less. Atlas is about to shrug, big time.
But the old guys will call you 'slacker'! And the magazines are saying you are 'achieving a better work/life balance'.
Now you are Gen X.
“You can buy a house for less [than $40,000]”
Oh, yeah. But lot rental and propane for the stove have to be added, too. Then there’s the neighbors...
Working it now.
Lighting and fire is already there, integrated into the control program.
The systems 'learn' the indoor/outdoor conditions and start the AC systems at the optimum time to have the temperature ready for the work day, use outside air for as much of the cooling needs as possible.
What used to be pneumatic controlled is now microchip controlled.
I bet that there are lots of places in the US, where a decent house is less than $40k.
Not in CA, but...
It was New Mexico when I was growing up, but then the boomers arrived from CA and drove the price into the stratosphere....
You have to make a way. People like that are worth their weight in gold. Find a way to fire one of your losers to make room if need be.
Of course, the downside is that you have to live in Detroit...and there's a reason those buildings were abandoned.
Sure enough. I prefer TO3s myself. A power supply can't have enough 3055s. More current. Ar, ar, ar...
With the kind of woe is me rant you've let off in the thread I wouldn't want you working for me.
I suspect the young lady you just insulted wouldn't care for the attitude either.
Bravo!
