I remember Detroit (When it used to be considered the Paris of America)

Detroit . . . the Paris of America! – National sentiment (circa 1907)

You wanted him [Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick], Detroit, you got him ... this guy is Coleman Young times 10. Detroit will never change. Ever.

– JohnSB, DetNews.com, Aug 29, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------

In today's column, I'm going to take a diversion from my usual offerings of national and international concern to visit my birthplace, Detroit, Mich., where I currently reside in a neighboring suburb.

In case you haven't heard, "America's first hip-hop mayor" Kwame Kilpatrick, is currently embroiled in a very embarrassing public court proceeding that took more than four years to come to trial. The mayor is being sued by former bodyguard Harold Nelthrope and former Deputy Police Chief and Head of Internal Affairs Gary Brown for retaliation, loss of career and other charges under a whistle blowers statute.

Although the case just began Aug. 27, there is already much skullduggery and salacious charges of a wild party at the mayor's ['Manoogian'] mansion (a "party" that even Republican Attorney General Mike Cox said never happened).

* Shortly thereafter two exotic dancers who were at that "party" ended up murdered (one tracked down and killed in Atlanta, Ga.), the other dancer, Tamara Green, (a.k.a. "Strawberry") a college student and a working mother of three children, was beaten half to death by the mayor's wife at "the party." Medical records of this incident were mysteriously taken from the hospital. Shortly thereafter she was killed April 30, 2003 in a drive-by shooting in front of her home at Roselawn and Outer Dr. (literally around the block from where I grew up!)

Detroit was cool back in the 50’s and early 60’s when it was still pioneering in cars and Motown music, but it was never a “Paris” by any stretch.

With all the arabs there, isn’t it the Paris of America right now?

I remember Detroit (When it used to be considered the Paris of America)

I learned all I need to know about Detroit from former talk-show host
Ken Hamblin (a black American that served in the US Army).

Hamblin said that early in his civilian career, he'd spent a
a couple of years in Detroit.
As he put it, "I did my tour of duty in Detroit".

This is a sad story of the decline of Detroit. Similar stories can be told of the same decline happening in cities all across America.

And though the author mentions “white flight” from Detroit, perhaps more significant is the flight of middle class and other “decent” people, if I may use that term. The white flight meant that disproportionate numbers of black people were left behind. But the flight of decent people of all races, who didn’t want to live in the squalor that has afflicted so many places, meant that disporportionate numbers of people with social problems were the ones left behind.

lol....good one. In fact, Paris and Detroit are similar in another respect as well — the car-burning capitals of their respective continents.

Detroit was the “Paris of America” when it was a French colony in the 1700’s.

That was an amazingly good article. But now, I fear, poor Ellis Washington is going to have to move somewhere that the "buffer" in still in place, because he has painted a clear picture of an unpleasant truth. The powers that be aren't going to like him one little bit.

Ellis, what do you mean by 'buffer'?" What I mean dear reader in conclusion is that in order for a city to become great it must first become good. You cannot have too many negative elements (whether that be people, cultural habits, societal predilections, welfare recipients, non-taxpayers, unchecked pathology, or youth caught up in the three Ps: Parole – Probation – Prison), without countervailing forces of positive elements (honest people, taxpayers, enlightened leadership, strong churches, effective schools, dynamic businesses, public punishment of lawbreakers and most important, a moral, intelligent, politically diverse citizenry [not just liberal Democrats])

Don't blame "white flight" or "decent flight". Blame liberal leadership that excused crime, that attacked businesses verbally and through higher taxes, and a complete corruption of morality.

If we didn’t provide government payments . . . the lower classes would leave as well and they would have to go to a more socially cohesive community to find jobs.

In many ways it still is. Anybody who has visited Paris recently knows exactly what I’m talking about!

Being from the suburb, I lived my single day there for 8 years before moving to NYC in 72.

My heartaches to think of that great city after the riot in 68 everything started to go down hill.

Funny even on the buses in those days in the 70’s adveritizing signs over head would say Buy American!

Why do the Arabs want Detroit? It is a Sh!t hole..because they can crawl into the sewers and control it. Also, since most of our transportation comes out of Detroit, they can wreak havoc there. This may be the single most strategic city for them—an islamic cell on a city level, and a launching point for the rest of America.

The Mayor:

The Mayor's "Chief of Staff":

No picture of the "staff" was available....

The entire article MUST be read to be believed....
Charges of parties, dancers, murders and the Mayor's wife accused of savagely beating a DANCER who was later murdered....

Being democrats and "people of color" can be the only explanation of why we haven't heard of this before....

Proving once again, the consistent result when the ignorant minority becomes the majority -- they elect their own on a purely racist basis and chaos follows..

I remember the riots of 67 very well.

Detroit was and still is a sewer. Its been that way as long as I can remember. There are fewer people living there and they are mostly of one race but that isn’t what caused all their problems.

That crap hole should be renamed Lyndon because Detroit is the Great Society that he created!
