On the inside, a set of bathrooms at Emerson College looks like standard fare. On the outside, there are newfangled signs to ease the concerns of students who prefer not to signal that they are entering a men's or women's bathroom. The symbols are gender-neutral, a picture of a man and a woman. In response to students' pleas, Emerson has changed the signs that used to be aimed at a specific gender on 21 restrooms in campus buildings and one of the college's two dormitories. Emerson's changes, made in preparation for the upcoming school year, mirror moves by Tufts University and the University of Vermont, part of a small but growing number of universities modifying policies and facilities on behalf of transgender students. Several colleges have amended nondiscrimination policies to include gender identity, but student groups recently began pursuing more concrete changes, including gender-neutral housing, locker rooms, and bathrooms.

Exactly. I worked in higher education for thirty years, and most of these kind of "advances" were designed more to get some kind of reaction than to really help anybody.
And the more outrageous the 'innovation', the better.
I am sure the administrators at Emerson are distributing copies of this Boston Globe article and congratulating themselves on being at the 'leading edge' of campus toilet policies.
I wonder if the campus police at Emerson will be working undercover in these bathrooms looking for guys trying to pick up girls?
Read the article. These are single-stall bathrooms. A whole lot of of office buildings and malls have them -- for folks with handicaps, parents who want to accompany an opposite-sex child to the bathroom, or even folks who just have hang-ups about shared restrooms. Some places put their baby-changing stations in there. The only thing unusual about the ones described here is that they have a tub and shower, which most office buildings don't, but makes sense in a dorm.
Emerson didn't add any new restrooms; they just changed the signs.
This is more about access for the psychologically perverted to the object of their sickness.
I confess. I watched one too many episodes of Allie McBeal and remain totally grossed out.
Think psychological disorder. It is plain to me these people who would pay to have themselves genitally mutilated are beyond crazy. Gender neutral institutions is where these sickos belong.
This might seem exciting to some, but, the first time a highly attractive member of the opposite gender sits in the next stall will change that.
I never thought about this until now, we only have one bathroom at work and we all share it. I am the only female, I can only remember going into the bathroom once and finding the seat up. The seat is always clean also.
I must truly work with some unusual guys.
Signs, signs, everywhere a sign...
The schools Little Building dormitory now has one gender-neutral bathroom, including a bathtub and shower, on every floor. Now how can they be pursuing them if they already have them????
AMEN!
I mourn the day when the word "gender" escaped from the grammar and linguistics books and insinuated itself into the bathrooms. Forget gender. The human race has but two sexes. One has a SRY gene; the other one doesn't. That should really be the end of the story.
And of course anyone who objects to using gender neutral bathrooms will be disciplined on campus for “hate speech” and “causing a hostile learning environment”, so of course nobody will dare to speak out against this political correctness tyranny.
Kudos... a very timely response!
Actually, this is nothing new. Brown University had a co-ed bathrooms in a co-ed dorm as far back as 1980.
While visiting a friend’s sister at Brown, I had to use the bathroom. I must admit that I was a bit taken aback when I walked into the bathroom labeled “Men”, only to find a bunch of coeds standing at the mirrors.

They would be funny except they are so dangerous.
Remember, please, that they are Marxists and Useful Idiots. These are dangerous people whose goal is to destroy freedom. They are working tirelessly to indoctrinate the next generation of voters.
Although I’m slightly offended as an Emerson student, there is a large number of students here that look like they study interior design.
Hillary Clinton is goanna sue!
Yeah, a friend of mine works at Dunkin’ Donuts and told me how one time he had to clean the ladies’ room and there was a “feminine product” in one of the toilets. If I were him I would’ve quit then and there.
