The Pentagon has drawn up plans for massive airstrikes against 1,200 targets in Iran, designed to annihilate the Iranians military capability in three days, according to a national security expert in Sundays edition in the Times of London.
Alexis Debat, director of terrorism and national security at the Nixon Center, said last week that US military planners were not preparing for pinprick strikes against Irans nuclear facilities. Theyre about taking out the entire Iranian military, he said.
Debat was speaking at a meeting organized by The National Interest, a conservative foreign policy journal. He told The Sunday Times that the US military had concluded: Whether you go for pinprick strikes or all-out military action, the reaction from the Iranians will be the same. It was, he added, a very legitimate strategic calculus.
President George Bush intensified the rhetoric against Iran last week, accusing Tehran of putting the Middle East under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust. He warned that the US and its allies would confront Iran before it is too late.
One Washington source said the temperature was rising inside the administration. Bush was sending a message to a number of audiences, he said to the Iranians and to members of the United Nations security council who are trying to weaken a tough third resolution on sanctions against Iran for flouting a UN ban on uranium enrichment.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) last week reported significant cooperation with Iran over its nuclear program and said that uranium enrichment had slowed. Tehran has promised to answer most questions from the agency by November, but Washington fears it is stalling to prevent further sanctions. Iran continues to maintain it is merely developing civilian nuclear power.

Koay, let’s see . . .
Today iss Sunday . . .
So we can be done with it by Wednesday.
LET’S GET ROLLIN’!!!
I’m guessing Iran has game-planned this anyway. It could not have come as a shock - and what if it’s disinformation?
All that being said, I pray to God that we, as a nation, have the strength and the will to do what needs to be done when the time comes. Consequences be damned.
I am going to bet we see a small troop movement to the Iranian border as an exercise.
Airstrikes like these would be too good to be true; therefore, this story is probably just psy-ops. Especially since the source is identified. If it were an anonymous source, like those that the NY Slimes relies on, I’d give it more credibility.
And/or psy-ops? Heck, this bunch of nutters is seeing UFOs. Messing with their heads shouldn't be all that difficult.
Either the guy is handing out military secrest for which he should be arrested, tried, and imprisoned or more likely he is just guessing in order to get his 15 minutes of fame.
This article tells them what? Buy more umbrellas than previously thought? LOL.
So to you, a six-paragraph article is a military 'playbook?' C'mon.
An article like this is our equivalent of 'chatter.' It doesn't tell the enemy diddly squat, just gives our enemies something to worry and argue about among themselves.
I wish those in charge and those covering the subject would simply say..."WE'LL HANDLE IT."
I thought it was only ground forces that are stretched and that the Air Force and Navy have a lot of excess capability.
I hate to see the Pentagon say this, and it’s not because they are showing their hand, but becuase it shows they really haven’t learned too much from what is going on in Iraq.
Iran knows that it cannot fight and win on a linear battlefield, and will most likely stage an initial stand up fight in order to allow soldiers to blend into the civilian population. It would not be too long then until we see the IED’s begin, and not too long before what looked like a victory shows itself for what it really is; a ruse.
This is Hugh!
I very highly doubt it. They really believe we won't do anything significant.
I laugh every time I see one of these stories. What does the reporter think this proves? Yes, we have plans drawn up to attack Iran. The Pentagon has plans drawn up to attack just about everything; that is The Defense Department’s job. Somewhere in the Pentagon there is a team working on plans to attack Paraguay. Ya know, just in case...
We have “plans” for everything. But this one in light years from being implemented. There is next to no political movement in that direction because attacking Iran would be the stupidest thing we could do.
Europe, Russia and China who’re largely responsible for Iran’s nuclear containment, or lack of it, would just walk away and leave us with a mess far more expensive than the one in Iraq. A massive attack would turn the Iranians against us for decades without destroying their bio capabilities.
With Iraq tying up our resources and without the political will to finish the job, it’s MUCH better to work with the Euro-weenies now, especially considering they’d be the first target of their nukes anyway, after Israel.
Aounds good to me.
Knowledge of the existence of an overall plan doesn't really do much to blunt the plan's impact. With the details, Iran could possibly mount a better defense against it. Without them, nothing significant is compromised.
Also, given the huge amount of money that's spent on military planning, I'd be disappointed if we didn't have such a plan on the shelf. The Pentagon probably has written plans for every imaginable (and some unimaginable) contingencies.
Day 1) Politely ask iran to surrender
Day 2) Soak all bullets in swing blood
Day 3) Release the bullets.
Result - iran surrenders before Day 3
swing = swine
