Sir Mike Jackson says Rumsfeld one of most responsible for current situation in Iraq.
LONDON - The head of the British Army during the invasion of Iraq has blasted the United States for its handling of the aftermath, a newspaper reported Saturday.
General Sir Mike Jackson laid into the then US defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld in a stinging attack, said The Daily Telegraph, which is to serialise his forthcoming autobiography, "Soldier".
Jackson branded US policy after the March 2003 invasion "intellectually bankrupt" and slammed Rumsfeld's claim that US forces "don't do nation-building" as "nonsensical."
Jackson said Rumsfeld was "one of the most responsible for the current situation in Iraq."
The retired general's comments are likely to fuel perceived tensions over Iraq between allies Britain and the United States.
The Daily Telegraph said Jackson feels the US approach to combating global terrorism is "inadequate" and too focused on military might rather than nation-building and diplomacy.

Well, they’re right about the Brits having bad teeth.
C’mon Monty, give Patton his due.
If Rumsfeld actually said this, then he's a freaking moron.
And the reality is on the whole what has been accomplished in Iraq and Stan is d*mn amazing....by virtually all reasonable and historic standards....
i’m tired of “hooray for our side” and that’s what this forum has become.
read the following book and you’ll see that rumsfelf, tenet, and franks, et al made some big blunders.
also, bremer is to blame for the current problems with the sunnis.

I wonder how this military genius figures you fight an enemy like Al-Queda, Iranian and Syrian insurgents, and hostile Iraqi militia?? Yes, the ones shooting guns and rockets at you with the sole purpose of killing you?
Diplomacy, that MUST be the answer. Just be nice to them, give them money...how very Carteresque. Sure, don’t use the military....see how well that works.
Blithering fool.
That being said, perhaps the US was shortsighted in expecting the Iraqis to act like civilized people after being liberated from 30 years of brutal, dictatorial rule. Yeah, maybe we should have seen that Iraq would be the flame that all jihadis would fly to.
Then again Gen. Jackson maybe the plan was for all those little jihadis to run to Iraq to meet their virgins instead of watching mohammaden (may pigs be upon him) porn in a cyber cafe and blowing themselves up on bus, IN LONDON OR NEW YORK.
he can use some of the funds from the book for dental work.
that’s why I had to post the pic :)

OK, someone has to PhotoShop a white glitter glove on this guy.
No.
We have been incredibly successful and attempts to say otherwise are astoundingly disrespectful to almost any other war fought by this nation. D Day and any number of other military events were hampered by serious planning flaws and yet they are seen as successful.
The US military continues to be astoundingly successful. This is especially true in light of the traiterous contempt with which they are held by the right and left in the global public sphere.
How successful was the Iran Iraq war? No one even cares. It was catastrophe upon catastrophe. But because America can and has defeated armies with such ease, it is okay to criticize imperfections as astounding falilures.
This is the guy who told Wes Clark to piss off when he wanted to start a conflict with the Russians.
He’s very well respected by rank and file soldiers from what I have read.
Rumsfled? He will go down in history as one of the biggest failures ever. And not just by liberals and drive by media.
In other news, Michael Jackson tells Donald Rumsfeld to, “Just beat it!”
Are you really saying this Brit is right, that we need to use more “diplomacy” with al Queda and Iran? That there’s a non violent solution to either?
i agree with the lead sentence:
“Sir Mike Jackson says Rumsfeld one of most responsible for current situation in Iraq.”
