Rudy Giuliani's top strategist sent out a chest-thumping e-mail to supporters last night, declaring the former mayor is in his "strongest position" to win the Republican primary and the general election.
"We are positioned to both compete in and win the traditional early contests, Florida and key Feb. 5 states," Giuliani strategy director Brent Seaborn wrote.
"Furthermore, public polling continues to prove we are the most competitive and viable general election candidate against Hillary Clinton."
The unusually frank e-mail dismissed actor Fred Thompson, who is expected to announce his GOP bid next week, as an untested pol whose "indecision may have cost him his best opportunity to enter this race."

Gee Rudy, if you're so damned "electable" against Hillary Clinton, perhaps you can explain why you failed not once, but TWICE to take her on your HOME state where you enjoy the largest amount of support in the country?
Assuming Rudy is "the most competitive and viable general election candidate against Hillary Clinton", wouldn't that mean that Rudy's failure to stop her in NY is the very reason the rest of the nation is stuck with "Senator Clinton" running for President now?
“More bovine excrement from this overconfident RINO jackass.”
BINGO!!
Perhaps Rudy was frightened of Hillary? Or perhaps Rudy - planning to run for POTUS - wanted to avoid exposing his liberal agenda, notable on illegal aliens, and knew Hillary's votes would closely parallel his? Although Rudy makes some nice sounding statements, there is nearly always a "but . . ."
Who decides when a candidate becomes "viable"?
A little pro-life, in-your-face, sarcasm for you there, Rudy.
Yeah right.
The fear of Fred is growing.
We'll sit this one out until you two are finished.
Yep........Rudy the RINO doesn’t have the wind to win. Hunter, Fred , Paul or even Huckabee before Julie Annie.
When he turns himself in for violating 2A rights of New Yorkers and settles for 20 years in prison (each) for over 1 million counts, served sequentially, no parole, I will consider voting for him if he ever gets out and apologizes. Nah, I would not even vote for him then.
The ONLY way the Rudy Rooters can win is if the rest of the party is split between other contenders.
His victory in a primary would assure another Clinton in the White House.
Well, technically, he's probably correct. Right now is as good as it's ever going to get for Rudy. Next week, the downhill slide begins - and it's going to be a doozey!
Why couldn’t Rudy beat Hillary in New York State?
Because on the political spectrum, New York State is just to the right of Cuba or Venezuala. High taxes unions, nanny state support, are all very popular there.
New York City voters only elected Guliani because after the mess created by Dinkins and Koch, they were desperate for change. And to Rudy’s credit, he did a fantastic job. He stood up for the cops, he made welfare recipients go to work. Crime dropped dramatically. Naturally, all of these things made him very unpopular with New Yorkers. Until 9.11 of course.
I’ll get blasted for this, but I like Rudy. He’s not as RINO as some people think. And he’s got the cajones to stand up to liberals, unlike George W. Bush. Of all the candidates running, he’s got the most executive experience, outside of the governors - Huckabee, Romney and Richardson. And New York City is bigger than all three of those states combined.
I guess being from Manhattan with half your staff being gay abortion supporters affects the clientele.
Can anyone tell me why the NRA is so silent about Rudy?
Rudy would lose to Hillary.
I’m no Thompson supporter, but Giuliani has a lot of nerve. At least nominating Thompson wouldn’t destroy the Republican Party for a generation. Nominating Giuliani would do so.
Giuliani supports homosexual rights, gun control, and abortion on demand.
That's beyond RINO, that's being more liberal than some Democrats.

Welcome to Free Republic.
Only if all the conservatives have died, left the GOP or are staying home. I don’t think that has happened, so I don’t imagine Rudy Giuliani will win the Republican nomination for president...
