It's a shrewd move by Thompson, one that gets his face in front of the public and allows him to participate in the event, but on his terms. He'll overshadow the debate, the second time he's managed to do that, and give himself a little more time to prepare properly for his first debate.
After this, though, Thompson has to fully engage. Once his announcement is made, he will have to show some fire on the campaign trail. His appearance in Minnesota showed that he's building up to a fast start, but it will also have to be near-flawless. He won't have the time to recover from stumbles as Rudy Giuliani did on abortion in April.

Read the posts at the bottom of the blog page. The sour grapes are everywhere. LOL!
I have a feeling FDT will be the 44th President of the United States.
The other candidates are going to start feeling less and less important...lol
You been talking to Hillary???????.........
Not sure what you mean by that
I like Fred’s independent streak. He is driving home over and over again that he is a leader not a follower. The debates aren’t real debates anyway if they were no one would be concerned about him running an ad before them no more than they would if Ron Paul were.
What Fred is offering debate viewers is a simple comparison. A viewer can look at him addressing them one on one and then look at all the debate candidates lined up like Miss America contestants being run through their paces by the media. Plus he is doing one other thing he is fueling media coverage and buzz. It may backfire but I don’t think so.
Maybe the ad will be a good idea, but maybe it will just remind folks that Mr. Thompson is still playing games with his candidacy. Maybe people will think, "That's the guy who should have the nomination," or maybe they will say, "That's the guy who still isn't ready to be seen with and compared to the other candidates."
In the long run, I don't see the placement of one ad having much impact on anything.
Bill
“Maybe people will think, “That’s the guy who should have the nomination,” or maybe they will say, “That’s the guy who still isn’t ready to be seen with and compared to the other candidates.””
And what a PERFECTLY timed reminder, LOL.
More likely, they’ll think that he is too smart to be drowned out by two minute soundbites spoken by a bunch of would-be candidates that shouldn’t be on the stage.
There will be plenty of debates after the field is trimmed up some. It’s funny how all the candidates who have no chance to begin with hate Thompson because he has found a strategy that works there theirs hasn’t.
Sort of like an elitist, huh?
RR stole the debate in NH when he said he’d paid for the mike and wanted everyone running to take part....the moderator/newspaper had decided to exclude a couple of marginal candidates...When RR grabbed the mike and demanded they take part, he changed the entire dynamic of the race. (For instance, no longer was his age a factor. And later on, when he’d gotten the nomination, he said he wouldn’t hold Mondale’s youth against him.)
Let’s face it, most of the debates are boring, but when one candidate reveals his individuality/character, it gets interesting. People pay attention to what he says on the issues. FTD, by being himself, doing what comes naturally, will beat anyone the dems put up against him.
No one is going to remember anything said at these early debates three weeks after they are held , but everyone will remember Fred’s ad., because it isn’t the same ole, same ole that other candidates are showing by going into the boring debates with scripted answers to questions they have already seen. If I watch any debate, it will be between the final candidates for the office.

Still waiting for Fred to engage, yep, and to show some fire. It is right around the corner, just you wait. Hoo boy, once, as Fred himself said, he uses his time to ...to get my team together, get my act together... he will really be something.
No sooner said than done - so acts your man of worth.
If someone has talent and ability, it is plain to see. You don't have to wait around drumming your fingers in hopeful expectation.
September 5th, none too soon, Fred Thompson has the opportunity to clamber into into the ring, dispel doubts, rally his supporters, and make his mark. Instead, from the tall grass, an ad will appear.
But, "debates aren't important", and "nobody watches them", and (since they aren't important and nobody watches them), just you wait until September 27th...then, Fred will show 'em.
Who said that?
Uh, look up a few posts, and the importance and viewership of debates is disparaged, on this and every other thread in which Fred is excused his conspicuous September 5th absence. I could link multiple examples, but it shouldn't be necessary.
All debates?
