Did you notice that Charles Gibson on ABC News tonight showed a brief clip of Hillary's 2000 gala, which was sponsored by "a felon." Showed a picture of Peter Paul, but didn't name him. Still, that's close to actual coverage.

Charlie's show is one of the many I have been blasting with email and faxes since the Norman Hsu scandal broke. I have spoken to many reporters in the last three days, and they are finally seeming to pay attention.

I spoke with a reporter in Pennsylvania today. He had no idea Ed Rendell was going to be under oath in Paul v Clinton. Or that Rendell failed to declare the money Peter spent on the Algore fundraiser at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Or the 150K stock pledge made by Peter. Or that Rendell called the day before the WASHPOST story and told Peter he had to lie about giving money, and the whole thing would eventually blow over.

Guess what, Ed? We are going to see you in a deposition.

I have spoken on a couple of occasions with Brian Ross about doing a followup to his 2001 story. In the outtakes, he mentioned the name David Rosen about a dozen times, but he never put that name in his 20/20 piece. In the Rosen trial, Jim Levin testified that they he and Rosen were relieved after seeing how Ross reported it.

For the record, the FEC cleared Hillary in the scandal when they determined the campaign failed to report $721,000. Unfortunately, the FEC did not have the smoking gun video. That was kept under wraps by an assistant US ATTY while investigations were proceeding. A California Appellate court in Los Angeles is looking at that video and will be part of the oral arguments on Sept. 7. I'll be there and give you a report. Smile for the camera, Mr. Kendall.

Before his involvement with the Clintons, Peter's felony record consisted of helping a group rip off Fidel Castro for 8.7 mil in The Cuban Coffee Caper. That was one of the great stings ever and exposed Castro to his Soviet benefactors for cheating them with black market coffee. Unfortunately, Carter was the president and, instead of getting a Medal of Freedom, he was prosecuted. Later, in another sanctioned but unsanctioned operation, he was caught going across the Canadian border with a false ID.
