DURHAM, N.C. - Mike Nifong, the disgraced former Durham County district attorney, was held in criminal contempt of court Friday for lying to a judge when pursuing rape charges against three falsely accused Duke University lacrosse players. ADVERTISEMENT
Superior Court Judge W. Osmond Smith III sentenced Nifong, who has already been stripped of his law license and has resigned from office, to a single day in jail. He had faced as many as 30 days in jail and a fine as high as $500.
"If what I impose with regard to Mr. Nifong would make things better or different for what's already happened, I don't know what it would be or how I could do it," Smith said.
Reading his contempt decision from the bench minutes after the conclusion of two days of testimony, Smith said Nifong "willfully made false statements" to the court in September when he insisted he had given defense attorneys all results from a critical DNA test.
In fact, Smith found, Nifong had provided the defense with a report on the DNA testing that he knew to be incomplete. The omitted data contained test results showing that DNA of multiple men, none of whom were lacrosse players, was on a woman who said she was attacked at a March 2006 party thrown by Duke's lacrosse team.

The Liefong claims his grotesque mishandling of the DNA evidence (and lack thereof) was mere incompetence, not wilful dishonesty. Oh, yeah, and I’ve got some great swampland to sell you..... I’d say there was a depraved mixture of both incompetence and dishonesty throughout this case.

He needs to get everything that’s coming his way and more. It’s still of great importance, both to deal with him and to set a proper example for any others who would so grossly abuse their position to railroad innocent accused persons. It’s also of great value to keep reminding all the demented leftists out there that they can see real consequences (sometimes, not often enough) when they start demagoguing and distorting issues. I’m sorry you don’t find this of great importance, but you should re-consider. This guy tried to ruin 3 lives (and everyone associated with them) forever, for his own political gain, while helping to stir up and sustain some of the ugliest racial (racist) politics this nation has seen in a long time. It’s of immense importance still, IMHO.

So true, a single day in jail is nowhere near enough for the LIEFONG. He should have gotten all 30 days, or more if there were any other charges that could be thrown at his lying mug.
One day? $500? Good thing NiFong didn’t get a speeding ticket. He deserves hard time.
Since there was no mention of Mr. Nifong’s political affiliation in this article, does that make it bi-partisan or non-partisan?

Don’t really care that you’re a lawyer, and therefore taking care of your own.
After his egregious crimes, this POS needs to be beaten until his flesh oozes like toothpaste out of the bicycle chain that is used to beat him (get my drift?)
He is the absolute worst sort of scum filth. He needs to be made into the apogee of examples.

Not nearly enough. He needs to do hard labor with that Sheriff in Arizona - you know Joe ... He needs to be made an example that no others will tread.
He had no party affiliation the moment he became an embarrassment to the ‘Rats and to the MSM. Yeah, it’s impossible to imagine a Republican (former) prosecutor in and similar circumstances without the party affiliation in every headline and in the first paragraph of every article.
A criminal contempt Nifong conviction is one more thing against Nifong ever tying to get another law license.
It would be nice to set him loose in the general inmate population of a large prison.... he would be well taken care of, we can be sure.
We can keep beating up on him forever as far as I am concerned. This POS, AKA: ScumFong knew that there was evidence that could have cleared these three men, and yet he was willing to prosecute and convict them and send them to prison for many years. Nifong is nothing less than a monster.
