Rendell: Suspect's money goes back -- if he's guilty 5:10 PM EDT, August 30, 2007

HARRISBURG - | Gov. Ed Rendell this afternoon defended his decision to keep a $40,000 donation from a prominent Democratic fundraiser who is wanted on a felony fraud charge in California, saying he will only return the charges against him are sustained.

In a conference call with reporters, Rendell said fund-raiser Norman Hsu "gave me that money legally. He hasn't been convicted of anything … We'll see what the court system does. If the court sustains it, we'll give it back."

The Los Angeles Times reported this week that Hsu appeared to be a fugitive from justice in California.

NOTE: I have spoken to two reporters in Pennsylvania today. They were shocked, shocked I tell you, that Ed Rendell is soon to be under oath in Paul v Clinton. They knew nothing about the case. That's not surprising, no one but FReepers and few others know about the case. The Governor of Pennsylvania may have to answer why he did not declare the in-kind contribution of Peter Paul, who funded an event for Al Gore at the Beverly Hills Hotel in 2000. Yes, Peter has it on film. Olivia Newton-John did a couple of her classics. Hey, Ed, why didn't you make a report to the FEC of a $150,000 stock pledge as is required by law.

Hey, Ed, here is a copy of the callsheet that the FBI certified as evidence. A day before Lloyd Grove wrote the story about Peter Paul's involvement with the Cuban Coffee caper, why did you tell him to lie to the voters and pretend he didn't give $1.6 mil? Did you do that on your own, or did Hillary tell you to do that?

Hey, Ed, after Aaron Tonken was indicted in California, why did you offer him a job in the Pennsylvania government? He had no qualifications for that. Some people may conclude, rightly or wrongly, that such conduct looked like a bribe to get him to remain silent about what he knew.

Hey, Ed, see you at the deposition. It really is going to be a great deal of fun.

Oh, yeah, Ed. You are in the documentary. It is true that the camera adds 10 pounds. You're hitting on Peter's wife was shameless.

Doug, as a resident of a neighboring state, I find your posting of this shameless attack on Ed Rendell most reprehensible.

This man is a miracle worker. Whenever his party needs votes, Ed finds'em, and fast! He is such an inspiring man, too. Districts in Philadelphia, which to the unitiated may look somewhat deserted, being composed of warehouses and such, turn out thousands and thousands of votes due to his enthusiasm, no matter how late it gets.

In regard to this so-called "film" to which the author of your scurrilous post refers: who are you going to believe, a man like Ed Rendell or your lying eyes?

Hsu hasn’t been convicted of anything? Well, according to the WSJ he was supposed to serve 3 years, but vanished just before sentencing.
Or did I only dream that?

I need to follow this a LOT closer than I have been, I had no idea Spendell was in this up to his oversized neck.

Please, God , please let Ed Rendell get indicted... or arrested, or embarrassed or SOMETHING!

.... oh yeah, may Hillary go down like an intern over this as well.

Keep up the good work DFU!

What's curious is that Hsu was convicted and sentenced to serve three years in prison. If he doesn't report for incarceration, and flees instead, his bail is forfeited, and a bench warrant is issued for his capture. He is no longer eligible for bail, being an obvious flight risk.

Now, what kind of 'grease' would it take to get this convicted-sentenced perp out on bail again?

And what are the odds on Hsu skipping the Country for a while? ...................... FRegards

Eddies latest escapade is to tick off legal gun owners and gun shops by shutting down background checks during the busiest gun sales time of the year.

He’s a real joker that Eddie,fugettabout it.

Any money given to a politician is dirty money. It doesn’t matter how it gets there or what they do with it; when you put it in the toilet and flush, it all gets mixed together.

I am shocked. Shocked I tell you, at the disrespect voiced about this great man. In fact, if there is a suitable cliff along the Delaware, Susquehanna, or Monongahela, I think Ed Rendell's face shoud be carved (or pushed)into it.

I hope he is never run over on one of your magnificent PA highways. I would hate to think of a Portuguese Water Dog rolling about on the flattened body.

About the same as me having a second beer after work tonight. In other words about 143%.
