Wow, another Ron Paul hate thread. Neat.
“Ron Paul Has Betrayed The GOP!”
Isn’t it more like the other way around.... The GOP establishment has betrayed the Reagan revolution and the ‘contract with america’ spirit.
It could simply be that one parent is of Jewish descent, the other isn't.
Sure he has. After years of when the GOP establishment backed RINOs and Dims against him in his Congressional elections.
You know, I wouldn't support Paul if he ran as an independent or 3rd party candidate in the general, but yet I'd still enjoy the heads exploding from the GOP apparatus and their groupie supporters.
Yes, I recognize that.
My question really has to do with the manner in which the author invokes his being "half Jewish." He seems to refer to it the same way he as being "half Cherokee" or "half Chinese." But note that it's also his ticket into synagogues, and Ron Paul's protection against anti-semitism. There's clearly a religious connotation, though it's not really clear if the author actually believes or practices Judaism.
It sounds like "half-Jewish" to him, is more a political lever than anything else.
That's not how I read his comments: "I've been asked by others if my former boss is an Anti-Semite. My answer is an emphatic NO. I am half Jewish. I am familiar with Anti-Semites. Ron is not one of them.
But I would say he's very insensitive to issues concerning Israel and for other concerns of Jewish Americans.
Houston Jews were always suspicious of Ron Paul. But Ron could always point to me as his "Jewish Staffer." He would even send me to Synagogues in the District and to Jewish events.
First, he states that others approached him about Ron Paul's possible beliefs on semitism. Then he clearly states that it was Ron Paul who used his 'Jewishness' in response to such inquiries, including sending him to Synagogues and Jewish events. It doesn't seem to me that his 'Jewishness' was his ticket, per se, but Ron Paul's ticket.
Sorry for the double reply, but I should have added in the first that his statement about being ‘half Jewish’ seems merely intended to buttress to his statement about being ‘familiar with anti-Semites’. He’s simply making it clear his familiarity comes from being half-Jewish himself, and not from some other cause.
Enough said. Motive exposed.
If you believe what someone posts.
From the man's own article: "In closing let me just say, that I don't believe his views represent the views of Congressional District 14 any more. The District, which I live in, is quite considerably more Conservative of foreign policy/defense issues than Ron Paul.
I would endorse Chris Peden, or some other Republican candidate other than Ron Paul for this seat.
Not to twist the topic of the thread, but I'm curious -- what would be the problem of legalizing prostitution?
Me too, when the Dem & GOP cry about the politics of personal destruction then low & behold they use the same tactics.
First of all, I’m shocked that a Ron Paul thread got less than 100 posts.
Secondly, I’ve been thinking about it, and there is indeed a way Ron Paul could become the next POTUS (or come darn close and become a legend). Things have to break right and there are a lot of ifs:
1. He needs to come close to 10% of the vote in the GOP primary to establish relevance.
2. The GOP needs to nominate a ticket of Rudy Giuliani/Mike Huckabee thinking that a southern baptist minister would take some of the taint off of Rudy. What it would really do is give every segment of the GOP a reason to hate the ticket. The dominant social conservative wing will hate Rudy for being a pro-choice morally challenged candidate. The libertarian wing will reject a nanny state serial tax raiser.
3. The DNC nominates Hillary Clinton as expected. She has the highest negative rating of any candidate in either party. People may not know politics or public policy but grown adults know a phoney when they see one.
4. He needs to run on the Libertarian Party ticket, something that up until now he swears he won’t do.
5. He needs to have a VP running mate who is charismatic and eloquent and can explain their position to the electorate at large.
If this happens, I think that Ron can pick off segments from both the GOP and the DNC...
*The pro-lifers on the right
*The Iraq war opponents on the left
*The libertarians in the GOP who hate Huckabee
*Everybody who hates Hillary
There is a chance. Thoughts?
Yep, just like those liberal media polls FReepers cite religiously now. Back when the polls showed low approval ratings for Bush? BARF ALERT! AW JEEZ NOT THIS FECES AGAIN!
Listen pal. If liberal abortionist/cross-dressing Giuliani is allowed to run as a Republican, then so can Dr. Paul.
Funny how the GOP establishment have no problem with Rudy supporting liberal policies but will piss and moan over someone who believes in the Constitution in the race.
EEE...Judging by his big lead in the polls, it does look like the GOP is giving Rudy a pass so far. But on this site, you know darn well what happened to his supporters.
I voted for Ron Paul when I lived in Sealy. Certainly as one of 435 Congress critters he is a long way from the worst.
As 1 of 1, I don’t, and never have seen him as presidential timber.
I get to vote for Bucky McKeon now.
