Thompson to Announce Run for President with Online Video Followed by Three-State Campaign Tour

McLean, VA – On September 6, 2007, Fred Thompson will be announcing his intention to run for President of the United States with a webcast available to millions at www.imwithfred.com. The launch of the video will be followed by a five-day campaign tour through Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

“I believe that there are millions of Americans who know that our security and prosperity are at risk if we don’t address the challenges of our time; the global threat of terrorism; taxes and spending that will bankrupt future generations, and a government that can’t seem to get the most basic responsibilities right for its citizens,” stated Fred Thompson.

“The response that we’ve received makes me confident that we have an opportunity to change politics in Washington and across the country, and take on these challenges the way every generation of Americans has faced the challenges of their time – with unity, hard work and a belief that we will come out on the winning side,” continued Thompson.

“We enter this campaign in a strong position,” said committee manager Bill Lacy. “Fred is consistently near the top in the polls, and conservatives across the country have put together the closest thing to a draft in recent presidential campaign history in an effort to bring about this day. The next few weeks will only serve to build upon those efforts, with house parties nationwide on the 6th, and visits to the early primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, quickly followed by stops in Florida and a homecoming in Lawrenceburg, TN on the 15th.”

“By announcing via webcast, Fred is able to take his consistently mainstream conservative message directly to the voters, who are already responding to that message with a strong upwelling of grassroots support. The webcast and the following campaign tour will play to Fred’s strengths, a consistent record of conservatism, his ability to clearly spread his message, and his ability to work with and connect with Americans from all walks of life,” said Lacy.

The committee will file our formal paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission within 15 days, the time allowed by law after Fred decided to run. Additionally, we will begin to consider candidate based events following Fred’s broadcast on September 6, 2007.

There you go again -- when you got beaten on the policy debate, you subtly change it to a "look at the record" debate.

We all know, from many discussions about Thompson's record, that his Senate legacy isn't in what bills he sponsored or backed, but rather the bad legislation he stopped or altered. Next, you'll trot out the tired "research" from Numbers USA which conflate legal with illegal immigration and distort the context or meaning of other votes.

Thompson's position is strong and clear: Secure the borders. No to amnesty or the stupid "Z-visa" ruse. Enforce the law.

I'm sure we'll be hearing more specifics in the next few months.

Your pissanthropy has done NOTHING for your candidate.
It appears you’re doing it for your own self-aggrandizement.

There you go again. The sooner you get it through your thick skull that FRed is one of us, a conservative, the better off you’ll be. Hannity`s #1 candidate is Rooty. Fred isn’t even remotely on the radar screen for anyone at Fox News. Even Brit Hume engages in juvenile ridicule about Fred`s chances. Barnes, Krauthammer and the others can all go to hades.

Can you point to a quote or a proposed bill or amendment Fred made in his 8 year senate career to deport the illegals?

In my opinion, there are enough laws already. We just don't enforce them. I don't think the solution lies in passing more bills or amendments. It's in cracking down with existing laws. If you do that, the jobs for illegals will dry up and many will self deport and incentives will disappear for others to come.

"You know, if you have the right kind of policies, and you're not encouraging people to come here and encouraging them to stay once they're here, they'll go back, many of them, of their own volition, instead of having to, you know, load up moving vans and rounding people up. That's not going to happen"

Fair enough. What did he stop or alter during the 1996 debate on the omnibus immigration bill?

Enforce the law.

Unfortunately many Congress critters prefer to pass more laws, spend more money, create more departments, rather than just enforcing what is on the books and then assess where we are at. That’s why I’m not that enamored by life time politicians becoming the President.

Save it, I’ve seen’em.

A Hannity interview of Fred doesn’t compare with his infatuation for Rooty Toot. Enough! This is a lowly side issue.

Fred`s support is good. Yesterday was a big day for his campaign effort. Making the unofficial more official will get even more conservatives moving towards supporting Fred. A positive impact for sure. If conservatives want to stop Rooty from any further successes, they better rally around Fred. The sooner, the better.

I listened to what was on Hunter’s website about ten days ago, and unless he changed it, I can’t see on his website. He says build the fence over and over and over again. He says it is possible to deport [when pressed by a reporter in an interview] but does not specify that he will deport all of them. The reporter wanted more of an answer and he said to tell them to go home.

I’ve not been able to find an interview of Hunter saying anything about an extensive deportation. Do you have a link?

I listened to a bunch of interviews and could not find it.

Fred is under restrictions as to what he can say or how much until after declaring.

Hunter is declared, and according to you he is perfect. Does he say the same thing that you are saying?

Hannity loves Fred almost as much as Rudy.

That's absurd. Do you expect people to believe that crap?

You are going to hit a limit on hard core tactics with the general population.

Look, I want to flip them all over the fence. There are times I think if I see another Bilingual ATM I will goes nuts.

However I know what we are up against. We have made some limited headway with the press, but nowhere near enough to overcome the “sympathetic” expose’ on the plight of the poor little migrant worker. We have the search for cheap labor, which is hard to go against money wise, and the fact that for what it’s worth there are a lot of good hard workers in that mix. They are indeed doing a few things that the lower end of our work force shuns in favor of handouts and minimal effort. I have witnessed that first hand.

I will say it one more time, Draconian measures will backfire all the way back into the issue of the fence and border security. We have to reverse 40 years of liberal mindset that has befallen a very large part of our voting population.

If you think that extreme conservative ideas are popular, why are we where we are now. Why did we start to lose it almost from day on 200 years ago. People do not always want to do what’s right, but what is expedient for them.

I don’t like it, but again there is the way things are and the way things ought to be.

As far as Fred on the fence, I am of a mind he wants to look at it further. As it is there maybe some ways to limit the expense of running one all the way across. Also there is some hesitation in some quarters about actually putting a fence across an entire border. The is a feeling that such an act is a tick too East German. As far as I am concerned it should go out 12 miles into the Gulf and Pacific, with mines, but again I am realistic and I don’t want to back myself into a corner where we get painted as nut cases and end up with Bupkis...

I’m sure I’ve left some out there, but you are spending a lot of time dragging down Fred on every little picayune thing you can think of. Don’t you have anything better to do? It is a pure waste of time trying to discuss anything in this manner.

Is there some jealousy going on?
Do you resent Fred and his supporters because of the draft movement and people are dissatisfied with the declared candidates?
Think you can pull down someone else and that will build up another candidate? It is more likely to discourage voters.
Perceptions [yours] equals everyone else’s reality?
Don’t like it that Fred gets media attention, even when he doesn’t plan for it [like in Minnesota]?

I am left to wonder about your agenda, and I don’t see anything positive about it.

It has been my experience that people who don’t have much to do spend a lot of time generating mischief. Seems like it would be much more productive to build up your candidate. Give it a try, you might be so busy you won’t have time to hang out on the Fred threads.

I wish there was even a little bit of good news for Hunter ...
