Thompson to Announce Run for President with Online Video Followed by Three-State Campaign Tour

McLean, VA – On September 6, 2007, Fred Thompson will be announcing his intention to run for President of the United States with a webcast available to millions at www.imwithfred.com. The launch of the video will be followed by a five-day campaign tour through Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

“I believe that there are millions of Americans who know that our security and prosperity are at risk if we don’t address the challenges of our time; the global threat of terrorism; taxes and spending that will bankrupt future generations, and a government that can’t seem to get the most basic responsibilities right for its citizens,” stated Fred Thompson.

“The response that we’ve received makes me confident that we have an opportunity to change politics in Washington and across the country, and take on these challenges the way every generation of Americans has faced the challenges of their time – with unity, hard work and a belief that we will come out on the winning side,” continued Thompson.

“We enter this campaign in a strong position,” said committee manager Bill Lacy. “Fred is consistently near the top in the polls, and conservatives across the country have put together the closest thing to a draft in recent presidential campaign history in an effort to bring about this day. The next few weeks will only serve to build upon those efforts, with house parties nationwide on the 6th, and visits to the early primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, quickly followed by stops in Florida and a homecoming in Lawrenceburg, TN on the 15th.”

“By announcing via webcast, Fred is able to take his consistently mainstream conservative message directly to the voters, who are already responding to that message with a strong upwelling of grassroots support. The webcast and the following campaign tour will play to Fred’s strengths, a consistent record of conservatism, his ability to clearly spread his message, and his ability to work with and connect with Americans from all walks of life,” said Lacy.

The committee will file our formal paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission within 15 days, the time allowed by law after Fred decided to run. Additionally, we will begin to consider candidate based events following Fred’s broadcast on September 6, 2007.

More and more people are taking a look at Duncan Hunter.

And at this rate, he'll soon be at Pat Buchanan numbers.

All the Clintons need are just enough "real" conservatives to pull them over the finish line.

Fred dithered away the summer.

He dithered it away so much that he has all the attention, while the other Republicans are out millions or, in McCain's case, just plain out.

LOL, AFTER the debate.

Yeah, because SEVEN remaining debates (already scheduled) shows he's lazy and afraid whereas going to the EIGHTH would mean he's tough and hard-working.

Sour grapes alright, Loser Supporter. Why didn’t you get your man Duncan to run a REAL CAMPAIGN? Oh, yeah—that would have cost him some campaign dollars. And, of course, Duncan’s not spending, he’s just collecting. Not collecting very much, but, still, he’s just collecting.

Unfortunately for you and your crowd, "lookin' ain't buyin'." Of course, just because you said people "are looking" doesn't make it so. That's OK--pretend more than 1% of the population gives a rip about Hunter's candidacy, if it makes you feel better.

Duncan Hunter, a great conservative, wants to run the country but proves every day he’s not ready to run a first class political campaign.

“More and more people are taking a look at Duncan Hunter.”

Duncan Hunter says illegal aliens have to go home.

Fred Thompsons says we must work out a deal to give illegal aliens aspirations of citizenship.

BIG difference, that’s why.

Misrepresentation doesn't help your cause. You know full well that you're pulling that away from it's context which says that they have to go to "the end of the line", so to speak. The only fundamental difference here is that some folks want the current illegals to go home and never be able to come back, whereas others want them to go home and go through the proper channels.

Additionally, Fred is one of those who have promoted the concept of self-deportation, to much ridicule from "round 'em up" crowd, but events in Arizona show that it works -- enforce the laws and they'll go home on their own.

You’re kidding yourself.

Duncan Hunter has NEVER said that we must differentiate between the kind of people that we have here and that we have to, in some way, work out a deal where they can have some aspirations of citizenship.
Fred has. He’s also said:

“I don’t believe most Americans are as concerned about the 12 million that are here as they are about the next 12 million after that.”

WRONG. and,

“Prove you can secure the border and then sit down and work out the rest of it. “

No Fred, no deals, no working it out the rest of it, NO AMNESTY. It’s really quite simple...

“As for the 12 million illegal immigrants already in the nation, Hunter told the crowd, “They have to go home.”
Period.

What I don't get is why the Mittwits, especially, seem to want to debate Thompson -- Thompson will wipe the floor with the faker from Massachusetts.

Misrepresentation doesn't help your cause.

In football it's called the "Hail Mary Pass". New Hunter/Romney/Paul supporter talking (or posting) point: proceed all comments with "LOL" and follow it with a vague slam. For example: "LOL: He's too lazy".

“I don’t believe most Americans are as concerned about the 12 million that are here as they are about the next 12 million after that.”

WRONG.

He's absolutely right. Note that he's not saying the 12 million here aren't a problem -- he's saying that the bigger problem is that there's nothing stopping another 12 million from coming in, or another 12 million after that. Bailing water out of a leaking boat doesn't do any good if you don't fix the hole. It's a matter of priorities. Everything can't be "priority #1" or nothing gets done.

Take care of priority #1, and then you can deal with the lower priority issues. Thompson has urged enforcing existing laws, which will cause illegals to self-deport when they are unable to find work. This is exactly what's happening in Arizona right now.
