About Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter

C.L. "Butch" Otter was elected Governor of Idaho on November 7, 2006. He previously served three terms in Congress representing Idaho’s 1st District (2000-2006). Governor Otter is a father of four and grandfather of four. He is married to the former Lori Easley. They live on their ranch near Star.
Governor Otter was born in Caldwell on May 3, 1942. He graduated from St. Teresa’s Academy (now Bishop Kelly High School) in Boise, attended Boise Junior College (now Boise State University), and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the College of Idaho (now Albertson College of Idaho) in 1967.
He served honorably in the Idaho Army National Guard’s 116th Armored Cavalry from 1968 to 1973, and later was awarded honorary doctorates from Mindanao (MIN’-den-ow) State University in the Philippines and Albertson College of Idaho in Caldwell.
Governor Otter’s 30-year career in business included membership on the Board of Directors of the J.R. Simplot Company. He also served as Director of the Food Products Division, President of Simplot Livestock, and President of Simplot International. He retired in 1993.
When he was elected to Congress, Governor Otter was serving his fourth term as Idaho’s Lieutenant Governor. He served in that office longer than anyone in Idaho history. He previously represented the people of Canyon County in the Idaho House of Representatives for two terms (1973-1976), was on the Idaho Republican Party Central Committee and was Chairman of the Canyon County Republican Party.
Governor Otter is a member of the Roman Catholic Church, the National Rifle Association, the Maple Grove State Grange, the Idaho Cowboys Association, the American Legion, Idaho 4-H Million Dollar Club, a Grand Slam member of Ducks Unlimited, and a lifetime member of Safari Club International.
But is he gay enough?
Hopefully, he replaces Craig with a very conservative, healthy, intelligent, youthful God-fearing person with a strong family history of longevity.

The bio fails to mention he was initially married to J.R.’s daughter, which is how his association with Simplot started. He tells a funny story about his first day on the job at Simplot where he figured he would be shown his fancy corner office and instead was issued coveralls and a shovel and was shown how to keep the potato waste from clogging up the sump.
He is a character but I worry that he has more than his share of skeletons dancing in his closet. But at least his coming out of the closet wouldn’t be the same as Larry’s.

Don’t know for sure...Idaho is a big-time AG state and our other senator, Mike Crapo, (Cray-po) voted against the shamnisty bill.
Well, Larry the Prairie Fa...uh, that is, Senator Craig hasn’t shown any particular inclination to resign yet, so this may all be a bit premature. Still, the horses are jockeying for the start. I’d be interested in the job myself on the “you want a gun-toting pervert? Why settle for an amateur?” ticket but sensitivities may be just a little raw at the moment. We’ll see.
The odds favor the appointment of Jim Risch, a most excellent choice.

I put the word “may” in the headline. I posted just to give FReepers a heads up that the GOP would not lose the seat if he resigned.
I doubt he's in favor of gay marriage as it didn't work out for him:
In 1964 Otter married Gay Simplot, daughter of his longtime employer, J. R. Simplot. The couple divorced in 1992.
Then again, I doubt he gave up potatoes when he and the spud baron's daughter got divorced, so who knows ...

It is a little amusing to read the spin some of the papers are taking - "those redneck Idaho racists must be in agony over the whole thing!" Frankly we're laughing harder than anyone, although I do feel awful for Craig's family. They don't deserve this.
Hopefully, he would nominate someone with the rugged masculinity of John Wayne and the pure life of Jesus. It is a cinch that the msm will be searching for any sin in his background. But it’s fine with them that Hillary can’t check to see that Chinese felons aren’t bankrolling her campaign because she’s just too busy, doncha know.
I hope he replaces him wiht someone as strong a supportor as Craig was of the 2nd amendment. He is one of the best on that issue. I believe he is or was in the past of the NRA board of directors. For that along I am mad as heck.
